Default Alternative to a Buttkicker?

So i decided i want to try a "bass shaker" but the Buttkicker lfe kit is $400. I was looking around and found this, it is the Aura Pro Bass Shaker. It is only $45 and i was thinking if i got that with a sub woofer power amp like http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00..._hashrec_01_02 or this http://www.amazon.com/AudioSource-AM...417346&sr=1-12 would it work?

Yes it will. I have that same amp with a pair of Aura bass shakers. I have an HT sofa and it is very light weight and very resonance friendly, so I never have to turn the bass shakers all the way up. If you have a heavier sofa or just like a lot of vibration... I would definitely recomend a pair of shakers and stronger amp, or a pair of the amp you have chosen (one amp for each shaker.)

That amp was designed to be built into the back of a woofer box... so I just cut a hole in the console of my sofa and dropped the amp in. Check my gallery to see a pic of how it turned out.

I saw the pics of your sofa, that's a great idea! I have a small lazyboy type of chair so i don't have anywhere to mount it but i do have a small wooden table next to where i sit i might mount it to that somehow. Thanks

Cool.... well you'll only need one shaker and that amp will power one very nicely. I put mine in the console so when I want to adjust the gain or the crossover.. I can just open the console and dial away. I'm thinking about going ahead and getting a second amp for the second shaker and mounting it inside the other console.... just so I don't have to shake the whole sofa when I am the only one sitting on it and playing games; or so that each end of the sofa can be independently controlled for those who like more or less vibration.

Forgot to ask, how do you hook it up from the sub woofer amp to the shaker? does the amp have binding post for where the speaker is suppose to be hooked up?

Thanks,

Thanks,
No... on the back side of the amp are a pair of wires that you just connect to some speaker wire and run the speaker wire to your shaker.

Too bad that price is an issue. The Buttkickers are worth every dollar. If you compared the 2, I think you would find a big enough diffrence to justify the higher price tag. But this may very well be a biased opinion on my part....however you will never know unless you compare....

I'm sure the buttkicker is probably better and probably more powerful. But all i need is a little bit of vibration nothing to shake my small chair, just a little "rumble" so it should serve me ok for now. I'll have to find a place that sells buttkickers locally and try them out sometime.

He's only doing one chair...... the bass shaker will be MORE than enough.

Cool, just throwing it out there. Everybody has different wants and needs, and I wanted to provide a different opinion. I'm sure the bass shakers will do the job you want them to, per what robinandtami has mentioned.

Here's a thought....I had a spare 8" powered sub from my recent upgrade to a 12". I bought a Y split and installed that on my receiver, connected the 12 and 8" with the 8 behind my couch. Seems to work alright...if you have a spare sub lying around

I've seen a setup where a sub was placed up against the couch. It seemed to work fine.

I'm sure it did fine, but the Buttkicker has to be felt to be believed. It won't knock you off the couch, but the feeling you will get will be much more apparant than what the sub would kick out.

That is true... but in my experience, it is not nearly as natural feeling as the vibrations gotten from a sub. If I were a speaker builder; I'd have turned my two sofa consoles into actual subwoofers instead of mounting transducers inside them.

The Buttkicker Advance is on sale at Amazon right now for $252 and free shipping. I'd go with that in a hearbeat. It has everything you need including the remote, cables, amp and shaker. I may get a second one...
