Default Pardo details why Blizzard has ignored this generation of consoles

http://www.joystiq.com/2009/03/27/gd...generation-of/

Quote:
"There are so many games, like we make at Blizzard, that we don't take to the console because they don't support input devices," Pardo told the attendees. Pardo's comments were made when the panel was asked what they would do if they were in charge of developing the next generation of consoles. Pardo, who hailed Nintendo for creating an input device "that allows new types of games to be made," explained that the lack of device diversity on consoles would only lead to "crappy ports" of his company's titles.

"If I was them," Pardo concluded, "I'd be sitting around trying to think of 'What's a cool input device that allows all types of new of games that are really fun to play?'"

Yeah, that's some straight up BS! When's the last time Blizzard made anything on the PC that utilized something other than a mouse and a keyboard? I mean God forbid if the PS3 were to have keyboard/mouse support....what..wait a minute....it DOES have keyboard/mouse support!

Not just that really, if you make a console game, it must support the controller.

Why would anyone want to play Blizzard games on the PS3? Strategy games like Starcraft are too complex for a controller anyways and people seem content with Diablo on the PC

Don't support input controllers? Rock Band and Guitar Hero would respectfully disagree. :P

And both of those games ship with their custom controllers. And yes, while it is possible to ship with a keyboard and mouse, also realize the additional burden that those custom controllers has put on Activision and EA trying to support their hardware as well.

...except that Blizzard titles use KB/M, which are carried in any electronics store on the planet?

Hehe true enough.
I had to giggle when I saw some Xbox fans rejoicing with the news that Blizzard might be helping MS on the development of their next console, thinking: "Blizzard is making core PC games by trade. Their most successful to date is a MMO, based on a Keyboard WASD and mouse GUI. WTH could they bring to the development of the next Xbox, unless it's geared toward MMOs, which there are already plenty in development for both next gen consoles?"

As per "cool interface for input devices", I wonder if Pardo has ever heard of Bluetooth ?

Blizzard should just stick to the PC side of things. He really should have just had the stones to admit that, rather than drag up the lame input device. Based on his comment (lame excuse), we should expect to see World of Wii hit store shelves just in time for the holiday season.
