My bad luck streak continues with just about every decision I make these days. I have a constant black cloud following me.
So, my fabulous 58" plasma, after following all breaking in procedures VERY carefully, even now still have settings toned down. I changed my tv from standard to movie mode and now have 2 pieces of images on my screen that won't go away. One is a visible, but barely ready string of text spanning a large distance in width. the other is a Fox 25 logo. When I'm watching tv, I honestly can't notice it. Unless there is a very dark seen then it shows up. That kills me because I love the depth of the black. I'm a picky SOB so this will eat at me forever. I've run the white wash a couple short times. Right now it's running and I'm going to leave it running for a while. Hopefully that logo "25" will disappear. I can see the shading of it thru the white screen. I can't see the string of text though but I know it's there.....wtf..what do I do? ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

I have a samsung as well. I get Image retention all the time and I have had mine for a year and use it everyday, it's just something that happens with them. They do get better over time and it goes away faster the more you use the tv. I found if you follow the settings from CNET for watching movies you get hardly any image retention, also game mode works pretty well. The only thing i really get IR from is my pc.

![]() You actually use your plasma as a PC monitor? That's one use I would NOT recommend a plasma for. |

I use mine as a PC monitor too. Its no big deal. I keep a white desktop and I set the screen saver to 1 minute so nothing sits on my screen that long. I've also had static images on the screen for lengthy amounts of time without problem too. I actually get more retention from watching movies...the black bars. It clears up pretty quickly though. Watching TV programming clears it real fast. The more you use the set the quicker retention goes away it seems. When I first got my set I was nervous because retention came quick and easy, but no more. I game on it a lot too.

I use it to play pc games like crysis and Mass Effect. I also have bought the new episodes of south park from season 13 from itunes and watch it on my tv. Anything else i just use my regular monitor for.

I can still notice the text across my screen. A guy at a local store told me the white wash will harm the set in the long run by taking away from it's brightness/black depths. Is that true? He told me to run the white wash for longer than an hour (5 to be precise) or run a scrambled channel (snowy).
I'm going to call samsung and see what they can do. The set is two months old this is rediculous. I will never buy samsung again. two tv's so far with issues. |

Mine as well face the facts, this isn't coming out. I've been running the scrolling for a few hours, now I'm trying the break in images. It's not dimming in the least. Not even 3 months old. I'll never buy samsung again as long as I live. The worst part is, I payed a lot of money for this tv and now I'm stuck with it. Samsung won't do squat about it...states right in the manual, burn-in is NOT covered by warranty

Keeps getting better...I actually can see the options menu for color/brightness and such ever so slightly, when a certain brightness rolls over the screen. Never noticed it till now so it's probably been there for a while since I have changed anything.
seems like all this started when I changed to movie mode...should I just switch back to standard? |

I've never had burn in or any IR at all with my KURO (no breakin either), but I have had IR with my pannys but it's gone once you run some other picture/color through it. If I where you I'd try the "snowy signal" & if that doesn't work send it back to Sammy with the quickness. I hope it works out for you.

Sammy plasmas have a pixel orbiter that should be engaged by default. Image retention can still occur but you shouldn't experience any real burn in. The fact that you are seeing menu images is quite suspect IMO. I doubt that you had the menu up for anywhere near the length of time it would take cause retention. If you've had the set less than 30 days then take it back pronto.
Not to trash talk Samsung, but I've been wary of them from the start. Throughout various forums and user reviews there seem to be more problems than with other manufacturers. Maybe its just that they sell a lot more so more problems turn up, but I don't know. At one time I really wanted a Sammy LCD, but after a lot comments I've read I just avoid their TV's. If you can take it back I would suggest going the Panasonic route all the way. They have a very low failure rate with their TV's. Image retention and burn-in shouldn't be a problem with them. My set doesn't even have the pixel shift feature and retention still goes away pretty quickly. All of the newer Panny's have the pixel shift feature so you probably won't even get retention under most conditions. Even beyond the 30 return policy Best Buy(if that's where you got it from) will usually let you return it if you are willing to upgrade. I've heard Amazon will do the same if you bought it from them. Even if you want another Sammy just take it back because I definitely think that there's something wrong with that set. |

I will try the snowy signal today but I ran the scrolling white wash for 5 hours and could still see the fox logo.
I actually was very careful with what I was watching so not sure how that happened. I still get IR but whenever i do, it goes away pretty quickly. It really sucks because I called samsung and they won't do anything for me. Other than direct me to a repair place. The Fox 25 logo is not even visible when I watch tv but as I mentioned previously there appears to be white shadow (It's text) also burned in so on very dark scenes I notice it appearing almost as a glare but when all lights are out, it's def not a glare. I bought the tv partially because of the blacks, now a portion of it is ruined...sucks. I'm going to keep trying to make it go away. I am very surprised it hasn't yet which makes me think it will not go away. |
