Default Aright boys, here's the deal.

Guy's I'm a noob here but have been doing a lot of research at this site.
Here's my set up so far. Panasonic th-58pz800u and a Playstation 3 80gig.
I need help and advice in setting up the rest of my home theatre. I realize this is the speaker section but am hoping to get reciver help also.
I have a $2000 dollar cap that I don't want to go over. I've been eye balling Swam, Polk, Klipsch,Rocket and Axiom as far as speakers. As for recivers I've pretty much focused in on Pioneer Elite,Denon, and Yamaha. The room size I am using for the theatre is 17' x 12'. I was thinking tower speakers for the front and setting up in a 5.1 configuration.
I will be watching Mostly movies and music DVD's using the PS3. I would like to come as close to theartre sound as possible.
Like I said I've been doing alot of research on my own here and now I have really confused myself on what I should do. I've come to the conclusion that there's to many choices and I need your experience to help me figure out the best way to spend this money. Thank You for taking the time to read this and also for I hope your forth coming help.

As far as speakers its best to go demo them if you can ! This way you can see what you like & how the different types sound ! If you want theater sound I would suggest including an amp to the receiver as well !!

Nice selection of speakers but if you can try to audition Paradigm Monitor series as well, around the same price as some of the ones you mentioned.

Yes, they do (my favorite computer store I know shameless plug for the "Egg" - However, I believe the OP is looking for a good step up in speakers especially if the OP is currently looking at Swan, Axiom, AV123 and others. OP - Crazyblue advised you to listen - that's good advise. The internet only companies mentioned have a 30 day gurantee so that's good also. If you really want to go into the upper range of speakers without spending a lot of dough - look at Audiogon also. The sellers there are very particular and you can build a very good system with used speakers.

$2000 for receiver and speakers, eh?

::thinks hard::

Pioneer VSX-1019 as receiver. The Elite 03 can be a consideration. Consider the Yamaha RX-V1900 here as well. I have a personal bias against Denon for no particular reason, lol.
elemental Designs A2-300 as subwoofer. Perhaps HSU's entry level offerings? http://hsuresearch.com/subwoofers.html Stay away from Polk/Klipsch/JBL/etc subwoofers. There's better out there!

Axiom? I like Axiom. M50s ($800/pr) with matching VP100 as your front soundstage...and a pair of QS4s for surrounds...well, it's a bit over $2,000; but it'll be breathtaking.

Paradigm Monitors would be nice...oooooo. Titan Monitors are $600ish/pair. Wouldn't need to go towers with a decent subwoofer...I love that Rosewood color. But get some Minis or Atoms for surrounds, and this one is great, too. BUT GET IT IN ROSEWOOD!

Although I would say you should just go 3.1 with a receiver at the outset and work on surrounds later. Never heard of Rocket speakers, and I assume you meant to say Swan. Does anyone here have Revels yet?

I also want to recommend PSB here...but I'm not too fairly sure on their price...hmm...

Have you looked at Energy speakers, you could get a great setup and stay within budget, and look into the Acoustic Audio HD Sub 12

CB10's $250/pr
CF30's $600/pr
CC10 $300
https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread.php?t=85212 $198

Add a Receiver..
Pio Elite vsx-03 $649 = $1997
OR Denon 2308 $478 = $1826

Or the Elimental Designs A2-300 $350 if you want a different sub.

This is my own opinion, but I would suggest staying away from the axiom speakers. From my own research, the word is that they are overly bright and fatiguing, and the driver set up/design is far from ideal as far as how they have them crossed over. But they do have the 30 day trial, so you can always see for yourself. I would look into the Revel Concerta series, http://www.revelspeakers.com/product...eries=concerta or Monitor Audio Silver or Bronze series, http://www.monitoraudiousa.com/products/silver-rs The revel will run you around 2k, probably a little over, but I'm sure dealer discounts will put it within budget (hopefully) for the 5.1 set up, but it will be a great set up.

Recievers, I'd recommend Yamaha (663 or up), Denon, Onkyo 805 (can be had for pretty cheap if you watch the deals), Marrantz SR 5003 (and up their line), or the Pioneer Elite offerings. These may be pushing your budget when combined with speakers, but if you're willing to get lcr and a receiver for 2k, then I think that would offer the best value, and add surrounds at a later date.

Ah the Axiom are NOT bright actually quite smooth sounding with a softer edge not sure what model you are talking about Intamin? Maybe the bookshelf? But the M60's I broke in for my father sound amazing.

I was referring to the M80s. Again, just one man's opinion.

Ah, I see Intamin agrees with me. Receiver and front three first, then sub, then surrounds. Maybe best to stick your $2,000 up front on the first few components. He also knows Revel prices better than me, I see!

I just bought a pair of 6.1 Swans. Got them set up the other day, but no pictures in my gallery yet.

At $950 shipped for the black cherry finish, you might be cutting yourself short on other components. My current receiver doesn't give them near enough power to really drive them though. Even at 8ohms, these are hungry speakers. I haven't had enough time with them to blind (deaf? ) buy recommend them, but I'm impressed so far!

The LCR of the Revel Concerta is 2100 MSRP, but I'm guessing you could get it for around 1600 leaving you 400ish for a receiver. If you're going for full 5.1 and receiver all at once, then I would have to rethink my recommendations, as the ones I gave will stretch the budget too much.

I also disagree with Axiom sounding bright and fatiguing. I personally own the M-60's and they sound awesome hooked up to my Onkyo-805. They also do really good on the bottom end (good bass). As of now, they sound so good that I really do not feel the need for a separate amp, however in the future I do plan on getting one.

I also agree with JJ...If you are gonna go over budget getting 5.1, start off with 3.1 or even 3.0. That is how I did it. But whatever you do, don't go cheap with your speakers. Goodluck

Thank you all for your replies. I do want to do it right the first time, too. So that being said it seem's that most of you agree that I should start on my front three and then surround later. So what would you recommend for my starting line up? The front three meaning two towers,1 center and an Reciever,. Would hope to get a reciever good enough to push the entire 5.1 setup when I'm through putting it all togeather, but I don't know if that would be possible with out and Amp. Anyhow leaving this up to the experts.

Ah, you should be fine with a decent starting receiver.

I would look into, as an opening step:

-Yamaha RX-863
-Marantz SR-6003
-Pioneer Elite VSX-03

and then perhaps consider

-Onkyo 805/806
-Denon 2309/2809

For speakers, I want to send you in a new direction. No Polk, Energy, JBL, Klipsch (esp...lol) here.
But! Before I continue!
AUDITION BEFORE YOU BUY - GO OUT THERE AND LISTEN TO THEM ALL, don't just go via looks and spec sheets.

Swan.
http://www.swanspeaker.com/speaker/htm/index.asp?type=A
Look at the bottom of the page for speakers more in your price range.

Monitor Audio.
http://www.monitoraudiousa.com/products
The Bronze RS line. I don't think you can get to the Silver.

Paradigm.
http://paradigm.com/en/paradigm/fron...-1-17.paradigm
The Monitor 7, or maybe the bookshelves will do you fine.

Bowers and Wilkins.
http://www.bowers-wilkins.com/displa...fid=2287&sc=ht
The 684s and a HTM61 would be $1400.

Subwoofers!

-HSU VTF-1
-eD A2-300

Cabling:

No monoprice here if you're going to be running Swans, Monitors, B&Ws, or Paradigms.

Ok, my recommendation is:
Monitor Audio RS6: http://www.monitoraudiousa.com/produ...6/your-speaker for $999 msrp (you can get a dealer discount if you can find a dealer in your area)
Monitor Audio RS LCR: http://www.monitoraudiousa.com/produ...r/your-speaker for $499
With a denon 2308 for 478 here http://www.6ave.com/Shop/product.aspx?sku=DENAVR2308CI

That'll put you right at 2k, but probably under if you can get a deal on the Monitor Audio stuff. If you can stretch slightly further, then I'd go for the RS8's which are 1299 msrp or get the Revel Concerta F12 1499 and their center for 500 and the same receiver for 2500 (again, probably can get the speakers for less).

PS: The "experts" here, or so you have deemed us, love spending other people's money!
