Variety is reporting that director Mikael Hafstrom, the man behind the big screen adaptation of Stephen Kings "1408," has signed on to helm "Last Rite." The screenplay for the fact-based thriller is written by Michael Petroni (Queen of the Damned). Based on a non-fiction book by Matt Baglio, the "Rite" tells the story of a young man who joins a seminary and is soon recruited into the Vatican's newly formed Exorcism School. There, he confronts the demonic and discovers his true faith by facing the devil. The film was original called "The Rite," just like the book it is based on, but the title has been recently changed.

Wow, another true story based on exorcisms. The Exorcist scared the hell out of me when I was a kid...and I was an altar boy at the time
