Criterion PlayTime (1967) - DISCONTINUED

Hi guys just want to know if one of you has "Playtime" there's EE throughout the movie I'm disappointed and surprised that none of the reviewers mentioned that.

Maybe nobody mentioned it because the movie still looks wonderful and whatever EE there may be doesn't at all detract from the amazing viewing experience Criterion has provided us with

On the contrary my friend, it detracted me from the viewing. Unlike the other criterion movies where the pictures are perfect.

Well if you're the only one complaining about it then perhaps the problem is with you and not the transfer. Just a thought.

I don't want to start a war, I just want to know if someone notice EE on that title. As we are here on a Blu ray forum to discuss matters like that aren't we ?

If you google playtime edge enhancement you'll notice a few reviewers did mention it, but only to say that it was either not distracting or nonexistent. I don't see how anyone could let something so minor interfere with their enjoyment of such a wonderful film.

Does anyone know why they transferred this movie from 35mm prints rather than the original 65mm elements?

I'll have to re-watch it..... I am sensitive to EE and DNR when it's laid on too thick..... but I certainly didn't notice any excessive levels of it on this title.....

I love this film too..... and I don't doubt that EE exists on it, but I didn't notice.... Of course there is so much going on in every frame, I find it hard to scrutinize the details......

Do you have any particular scenes where it's most noticeable, so I can check it out?

I know Criterion isn't completely opposed to DNR and EE, but I have never seen them using it to the point of "More-harm-than-good" Anything is possible though.

I use a Sony w60 sony player s550. I had no problems with other blus. I mean I see the same EE and DNR on the same movies as everybody does(ex: gladiator, Face off...) When there's no EE or DNR I don't see them like everybody on this forum or people(more demanding) on AVS forum.
But for this title "Playtime" It seems that I'm the only one who sees EE, strange.
And EE is in every scen of the film (around the characters, building...)

Yeah, that's definitely not true.

A lot of Criterion reviews gloss over any problems in the transfer or audio. I think many reviewers take into account the different expectations that Criterion buyers have than a general audience. On top of that many are just thankful they release movies on Blu-ray at all that no major studio would touch. These factors lead to many soft reviews in my experience.

I dont see how anyone can justify any type of EE or any other digital manipulation.

I don't know, I feel like many reviewers realize the lengths Criterion goes to put out a great product, and as a result their product leads to very few disappointments. It's a rarity for Criterion to put out a title with bad PQ/AQ so for many to assume and rate accordingly seems sensible to me

I watched it last night, and could not get into it at all, but that had nothing to do with any excessive amount of EE, because I didn't notice any.
