Default Thinking Of Going To PS3.

Hey guys I need some opinions. I have been thinking of selling my Sony BDP-S350 and getting the 80gb PS3. Why? Well the PS3 seems to give me so many more options such as internet, gaming and blu ray. Plus I hear that the PS3 is still ranked as one of the best blu ray players out there. So what should I do? Any opinions and suggestions anyone? Or should I stay with what I have? All advise and suggestions are welcome!

If you don't need the analog outs for your AVR I can't see reason not to use the PS3.

I was sort of out of gaming until I got my PS3. Now the whole family plays including the wife and kids. We also play a ton with friends. I couldn't imagine life w/o it now.

Even if your not into gaming the PS3 is also very useful as a media centre. I am wirelessly connected to my pc and can stream music, movies and pictures to view on the big screen and listen to through your system.

Do it.

Well! I think you hit all the key points within your qoute (internet, gaming, blu ray & best blu player). And I will add updates via internet and proven track records for dependability.

Don't sell your stand alone until you're sure you can live with the PS3's noise as a player. Mine is a space heater pig.

Do it. But also you never know about price drops and when that'll pop up.

I don't know much about the stand alone's or how they compare.. I can only talk about the PS3 and what I use it for.

- HD Movies of course (got a remote because I didn't want to use the game controller to play/stop movies()
- Games
- Internet Browsing (got myself a keyboard with built in pad for mouse)
- Media Center for music, home video/pictures
- I also stream movies to it from my PC.

I think only old 60gig PS3's make tons of noise.. I have had mine for over a year and have never heard it make a sound.. even with all volume muted I can't hear it at all standing right by it.

I think most PS3's are just as quiet as a stand alone.

+1. The PS3's media center capabilities never get emphasized enough. I currently use PS3 Media Server and PlayOn. Between the two services I seamlessly access photos, videos, Netflix, Hulu, YouTube, CBS, and many other sites all through my PS3.

As an all-arounder, there isn't a standalone Blu-ray player that can touch it.

I have a PS3. For me its been a neet player and it meet all my requirements for what I was looking for.

It was a blu-ray player and at the time it was the best one avilable but that seems to be changing.
I choose a PS3 becasue I wanted to get some games on the PS3.
I can stream media content to it from a nas box (which has a media server on it).
It was future proof with constant firmware updates and profile updates.
At the time it was cheaper then a profile 1.0 standalone but again thats changed.

The PS3 has had less issues with disks in the past as well and is quicker loading times with those java disks but I from what I hear the BDP-S350 is a good player so those are things to consider when looking into getting a PS3.

Best advice is do your research, look at BDP-S350 and PS3 and see if it will suit your needs or any good justifications to replace your existing player.

I have both the s350 and the ps3, and both are great I just use them for different reasons. I used the ps3 as my main blu ray player for at least a good year and it's great, but I ended up buying the 350 for our theater room and the ps3 to my game room. That way I can watch a movie or play a game if she is watching tv. And I love them both, if you can afford it I would say buy a ps3 but keep your player. U never know when you'll need the second player.

Love my ps3, it does everything well... But one word I would not choose to describe it with is "quiet". Mine sounds like a vacuum.

I have a ps3 and I love it. It has been a great player. It is easy to update the firmware and I have no complaints.

Knocks against the PS/3

1) Fan is a bit noisy. I have the 60 gig PS/3 that plays PS/2 games.
2) Must use the blue tooth remote. Can't operate it with an Infrared Universal remote.

Other than that I really like it. Good features are...

1) Disks load fast.
2) The PS/3 grabs the disk immediately. My Insignia Blu-ray player waits a while until it opens its disk tray--annoying.
