Never had one before...and I guess I should be thankful that it's taken this long.
The problem is that I have no idea how to get rid of it. It's not showing up in Avira but it IS showing up with Spybot and even though it's saying it's deleted, it's still showing up. The worst part is that it's got BOTH my laptop and my desktop infected (they infected each other...guess it was cybersex...tee hee). Can anyone recommend the best remover? How the hell can I be sure that it'll be gone? I've looked up this particular virus isn't showing up through a google/yahoo search under the exe file-name. It is, however, showing up when I do a search for the type of trojan that Spybot is saying it is. HELP! |

Hard way: When you run it with Spybot, do you get a location for it? You might need to crawl through your registry to find where it is in there, and remove the key for it. First try using start->run->msconfig to see if it is in the startup section. If it is, remove it there. If it's not, run Highjack This to see if you can find a location for it. If you get the location, reboot to command console, go to that location, manually delete the file, then go to Windows, and go through the registry to find where it starts up and delete it. |

Like others have said, look for the sites that have virus-specific removal instructions. These are usually pretty good, although they generally are pretty involved as well. The best DIYs for virus (and spyware and such) removal are the ones that tell you exactly how to do it -- where they don't leave anything up for interpretaion. Right down to every last detail with how to find your regedit (if necessary) and all that. Good luck! |

OP - Since you don't have an OS CD try this. If Spybot doesn't find it, I have found this online scan finds a lot the others don't. http://www.ewido.net/en/onlinescan/ If it finds files and cannot kill them. Either manually delete them in safe mode, or use killbox to get rid of them. http://killbox.net/ Last edited by JasonR; 04-03-2009 at 07:09 PM. |

My only point is that if one isn't particularly computer-savvy, a reformat is too involved to do right now...to say nothing of the fact the he doesn't have an install disc, which makes it difficult anyway. I'm sure either way he'll/we'll get it figured out. |
