3g broadband on PS3 - Blu-ray Forum

If I got the cricket 3G USB broadband and hooked it up to the USB on my PS3 will I be able to go online and play games?

BTW, this is for my friend, I already have internet.

Nope. The USB modems provided by cel companies need special software that has to be installed in order for it to work.

There was a thread on here before how to do it but i tried to search for it but couldnt find it ill keep trying, but if i remember correctly you have to but the card in the laptop, and setup to ip addressees for ps3 and laptop then use a cross-cennection cable

Another way to do it would be to purchase one of those uber-expensive routers that can fail back and forth between WAN (cable modem, DSL, satellite, etc.) connections and WWAN connections and just not provide it with a WAN connection.

thanks guys, I will let my friend check this out. But, in short, no the USB receiver will not just plug and play to the PS3. Right?
