Default Help with purchasing a player online.

Hello everyone i appreciate you looking at this thread, and hopefully you can help me out.

I live in Australia and as the months go on it seems as though region B are usually the ones getting douched when it comes to new releases. I've been thinking about this for a while now and the region locked release of Ichi the Killer clenched this decision that i need to buy a Region A player.

So my question is which shop online would you recommend me buying this player from as im pretty concerned about packaging, warranties and whatnot.

Also i doubt this but would there be any problems when updating firmware being from another region?

Finally what player would you recommend? i've been using my ps3 so im really not in the know when it comes to stand alone players. I dont want the cheap option, i also do not want the most pricey. I'm lookin to spend around $800-$1000AU.

Thanks for your time...

No idea how the firmware updates work out of the US, that would be something another non-American will have to answer for you. The Sony 350, 550 and the PS3 were the ones I was going to recommend. Good luck getting your blu-ray player!

As long as it's affordable and multiregion means it'll play blu-rays from every single region, I say go for it. Assuming it's a blu-ray player with excellent feedback, of course.

I'm actually looking at the Panasonic BD35, right in my price range. just a little worried about warranty though. would it still have any sort of manufactures warranty if its been modded?
Cheers..

I seriously doubt the manufacturers warranty would still apply if someone modded the player like that, about 99.9% sure there. Hopefully someone else besides me will reply soon and help you a lot more than I have.

Hmmm yeh think i might just take a risk with it. Players dont have any sort of rep for breaking down do they?

I think they're pretty solid, as electronics these days are pretty good. I'd say there's probably going to be a little bit of "you get what you pay for," so if you buy a less expensive model you're more likely to have build quality issues. That doesn't sound like a concern of yours, though, since you're looking at some good models.

What kind of modification are you going to do to your player? I'm a big fan of modifying things and am always curious about this kind of stuff.
