Default Ferris Bueller 2

Quote:
'Ferris Bueller's Day Off 2' Possibly Moving Forward

Back in 2007, TampaBay.com’s Stuck in the ’80s blog reported on a screenplay for a possible sequel to Ferris Bueller’s Day Off being shopped around Hollywood by relatively unknown writer Rick Rapier. The site apparently loved the script, which picks up with the gang roughly 20 years later. Ferris has become a famed motivational speaker, with best friend and business partner Cameron by his side and Rooney still stalking him from afar. However, Ferris is feeling unfulfilled, and so he decides to take his 40th birthday off.

We hadn’t heard much else about the possible sequel since then, but earlier this week, Rapier tweeted that some people had expressed interest in his sequel:

Quote:
Wish I could tweet names of ppl reading my #FerrisBueller sequel. Your jaw would drop. I’m stoked! Plz keep a good thot.
What people? Rapier expanded a bit in a recent conversation with Stuck in the ’80s (via FirstShowing):

Quote:
There is definite interest in my Ferris sequel. Big name production companies that have first-look production deals with Paramount are reading the script. Your readers would know either their names or have seen movies they’ve produced, some of them classics. We have high hopes that one or more will take an interest, and that Paramount brass will go for it on their advice.
The idea of a Ferris Bueller sequel initially struck me as absurd, but Hollywood’s currently scraping the bottom of your childhood toybox in a desperate attempt to avoid producing anything original — the more I think about this, the less crazy it sounds. Whether the movie would actually be any good is another question. Check out the first twelve pages of the script here, and judge for yourself.
Source

I'm honestly a little curious...I've heard the script is great so...I'm cautiously optimistic.

Well, lots of people have asked Matthew Broderick about a "Bueller" sequel, pretty much since the movie first came out. When John Hughes sadly passed away, I thought the very notion of doing it with anyone else would be seen as an insult to his memory. However, if the story is good, and the entire cast agrees to do it, it just might work. I think Matthew once joked that his idea for a sequel would be for Ferris to break Cameron out of a mental hospital.

I would be interested in a sequel if the three stars came back. I'm more so interested in the premise of this movie with the three leads than a sequel to Ferris Bueller's Day Off I suppose.

Does this really need to get made? I know word is the script is good, but I dunno, no matter how good it is, I cannot fathom why we would need this, can't this stay one off regardless?

It would be awesome if they could get Charlie Sheen to reprise his cameo! lol

I will add to that please make a return to Chicago as the setting of his day off. I am a Chicago native and can think of at least 10 places that Ferris can visit that he did not get to in the first movie.

Well, I checked out that link for the "first 12 pages" of this supposed script, and it actually wasn't too bad. I could almost see Matthew Broderick and Alan Ruck doing that kind of stuff on-screen. I guess the biggest problem would be getting them all to look 40. Alan is 54, Matt's 49, and Mia's 43. Of them all, she's the only one who could probably make it believable, without a lot of de-aging FX work being done.

No.

And let me save you some future posting time...they're movies. The answer to this question will always be no.

The first one is and always will be a favorite of mine but i really don't think it needs a sequel. There is no way they can recapture the feel of the first IMO. I am however happy that if this happens it's a sequel and not another remake.

+1, rather it be a sequel than a remake

I've never been to Chicago, but when I was reading the OP, I was already picturing them in Chicago. That is where the movie must take place.

They could probably fix that with a quick find/replace. 50 is the new 40 anyway. They might have to finesse the time frames a little bit but that doesn't seem unmanagable.

Agreed. Much rather it be a sequel then a remake. I'm very ok with that. And honestly, between this, Ghostbusters 3 and the Bill & Ted sequel, I think it's safe to assume that some of our favorite 80's comedies may just go the sequel route and not the remake route.

Ya I don't know how I feel about this one either. The first is such a classic and unless this one does so good that it is either at the same level or better then the first (which no matter how good the script "is" I don't see how it can) I don't see why it should be made. Especially this late since the first one. IDK

No need for the cynicism. You know what I mean, what does a Ferris Bueller sequel have to offer the world that the original didn't do:shug:

The fact that it's 25+ years later is all the more reason to make it.

Ferris and Co. pulling the same stunts in college would have been pointless. This could be interesting.

If John Hughes were alive, I'd be all for it. I think following 25 years later can sometimes be much more interesting than following 1-5 years later.

Without John Hughes involved though, I'd have to lean towards just leave it alone.

Good point, but then why have it be a Ferris Bueller sequel, if it's going to be something totally different?

I've got to admit, I'd be interested! I was in High School when this came out, so it's right in my wheelhouse.
Hopefully Jeffrey Jones is keeping up with his sex offender registration! There could be no other Principal Rooney!!

Meh... let them go ahead and do it. If it's good, we'll all enjoy it. If it sucks, we'll all ignore it.

The existance of Blues Brothers 2000 doesn't make me dislike the first one.
