Default Chief Editor of Wired on Today Show This Morning

Had the Today show on this morning, and they did a piece on a bunch of items (from make-up to appliances/electronics to yard equipment) regarding when was the time to try to salvage/repair them or when was the time to junk them.

For the electronics portion, the Chief Editor of Wired Magazine was the guest. They rambled through a bunch of items (iPod, digital cameras, etc). First, they came to an old TV set. He said that upgrade to a cheaper digital set, but getting an HD TV was 'not necessary', especially in this economy.

This leads into his view of a DVD player. He said that now is the perfect time to get rid of a poorly functioning DVD player. His reasoning? He said there's no use buying a new one because downloads were the next big thing over the next year or two.(!?!?!?) Didn't even mention a blu-ray player as a replacement option.

Sometimes it seems like the entire 'establishment' is against Blu-ray. Your thoughts?

oh geez. I think most of the Today show demographic are the 'fencers' on DVD/blu-ray too. And then this tard comes up and tells everyone they don't need it. I hate that people are still enabling the general public to keep buying into old technology, or in this case technology that wont come to be (massive mainstream downloads). This frustrates me. I'm sure that ass has a nice big LCD at home with a Sony BD player and HD DirecTV... SOB

Wired has definitely not been pushing Blu-ray in their magazine at all. They seem to have bought the Microsoft kool-aid about downloads taking over the world. Most of the segments I have seen on those shows usually do not impact purchasing decisions anyway. They are very casual and aimed at light news for the older female demographic.
