I need a surveillance camera to watch my dogs (pups really) while I'm at work. I have 2 dogs, at least one of whom chews on the furniture, but only when I'm not there. I would like to break them of that habit but I need to first find out which one (if it's just one) is doing it. It would be great if it had 2 way audio so I could just tell them to stop while I'm at work. I'd only have to do it a couple of times before they got the idea that I was omnipresent.
I have tried searching the internet far and wide looking for reviews of said cameras. All I can find are thinly veiled sales pitches and severely out of date reviews. So I'm hopeful at least a few people here can suggest a good value camera that will fit my needs. So here's what I'm looking for: 1. It has to be wired network enabled so I can view the footage from my work. I have a Cat 6 network jack conveniently located in my living room that connects to my router and then cable modem. Outlet is also close by so POE isn't needed. 2. It has to be a good value, I'm aiming for under $500 but would go up to $800 if it was a smokingly awesome deal on a way overachieving camera. 3. Pan and tilt is highly desired, I don't think one camera can catch all my furniture in it's FOV with the location I'll be placing it. Zoom would be okay, but not really needed for this application. I don't care at all about digital zoom, only optical would be any sort of bonus to me. 4. As stated above, 2 way audio would be great so I could issue verbal commands as the behavior occurs. 5. Quality image, most of the cameras I see operate at 640x480 at their max. and I just can't imagine the image quality is any good at that resolution. Some will only do 10 FPS at that resolution. I realize it really only has to be capable of creating a blur that resembles my dogs for me to recognize them, but I have a hard time paying for an imaging device that doesn't produce good images (who would have guessed that from a Blu-ray owner ![]() I think that's all. If you can make a suggestion, even if the suggestion is you think I'm SOL for that price range, I would greatly appreciate it. |
