1080i or 1080p

please can someone tell me the difference between these two...I have a Sony blu-ray bd350 player which i am extreamly happy with...but when i change from 1080i to 1080p in my player settings i don't see no difference...should I be be seeing a difference...I have a Samsung 37" lcd which has been fantastic for me and the DNIe setting makes so much difference...would appriciate advice..thanks..

1080i means the picture is interlaced and 1080p the picture is progressive. But however it does depend on how big your screen is and how far away you sit from the tv to notice at least a small difference.

If your TV does a good job with the deinterlacing the 1080i input you won't see much of a difference. Also, the difference would only be noticible on a much larger screen.

a easy way to see a difference is when the camera pans and watch the edges of things like a mountain scene and you will see a little bit of distortion or jaged edges on outline as the camera pans when it's interlaced.

You won't see a huge difference in 1080i vs 1080p. The big jump, where you will notice a difference, is from 480 to 720 and from 720 to 1080. As other posters have indicated, you will notice these differences in larger screens (42" and above).
