Default BD80 or new pioneer/oppo

Hi,

i was about to buy a new panny BD80 when i heard that new pioneer (BDP-320) and Oppo BD-83 players are around the corner that will also offer 7.1 analog outs (which is my critical requirement) .

Anyone have any views on whether it makes sense to wait for the pioneer / oppo or go ahead and buy the panny?

Right now, I don't think any stand alone BD player can compete with the Oppo. The EAP voting is over tomorrow. Dude, just wait a little bit, it's almost here.

Default I am in the same situation...

I was actually set on getting the Panny bdp 55 but the order was cancelled so I was waiting for the bdp 80 but thanks to these boards I learned about the OPPO Digital 83 and now I am waiting for that unit to be sold. I had heard others complaining that their bluray player did not play DVD's as well so that plus the OPPO 83 specs & initial user feedback seems to point me towards the OPPO 83.

The question is what do you need? 7.1 analog I get, but do you play SACD or DVD-Audio? If yes and you want it all from one device, then the Oppo is for you. Or if the price is not that important and you want the very best, Oppo again.

If not, I'd go with a Panasonic. BD will be very close, and based on your comments, DVD will be close enough for you. Between the Panasonic and Pioneer, I'd play with the machines - ergonomics will be just as important as any performance differences. I think Panasonics have been slightly more reliable, but it's a small difference.

i have sacds so it wud be nice but not vital as i already have an arcam sacd player.........guess im just keen to have very good quality analog audio on the blu ray as my processor is an older one.......i presume the PQ between these machines may not be too different......though SD upconversion may....
having waited so long i guess i might as well wait till all machines are out and then decide......

My friend recently received his Oppo. My interest was more in the audio than in the video. I helped him set it up and then put on blu-ray opera (DTS Master Audio). We then played SACD and DVD-A classical discs. His rather sophisticated audio system has always sounded really good with his excellent Sony 999ES SACD / DVD player that feeds his Krell preamp, Threshold amp, and massive Genesis speakers. But right now with the Oppo it sounds better to me than it ever has. After hearing (and watching) his I immediately went home and ordered one for myself to replace my Pioneer BDP-51. This Oppo BD player excels in video, audio, easy setup, and amazingly quick boot-up.
