PS3 still needs a price cut... good numbers all round though!

With a $50 price cut the PS3 would sell as well as the 360, but there are many considerations at "play". I do see a lot of positives.

So from February 27-March 31 Killzone 2 has sold 619k - not sure what to make of this.

Good PS3 HW sales though considering the climate right now.

It's a little disappointing considering the genre. People seem to be content playing their COD though.

So if we add the 2 days of February of KZ2 that's about 600k sales for its first month.
Sort of disapointing given the hopes for the title, but not bad actually

Given the installed market of 360s, the Hype (it's going to revolutionize console FPS!) and the huge franchise, Halo Wars is a relative bust on 360 at 600k.

In fine though, I'm sorry to see that KZ2 moved very few PS3s
March 2008 NPD Sales for the PS3: 257.000 units
March 2009 NPD Sales for the PS3: 218.000 units (-16% / Feb was slightly under 2008 sales, but nearly equal)

Price cut definitely needed. $100.

Hardware is down across the board. On a week to week basis, all hardware is down about 1/3. That's pretty huge. The recession is taking effect.

Software is doing pretty well overall though.

I think 600k in a month for KZ2 is pretty good. Gears of War (the first one) only did ~1 mill and that was in November without a recession.

It's really hard to have incredible sales of a non-famous franchise.

Unless the (NPD) numbers I have are wrong, the 360 was actually selling 262k in March 08, and 330K now...
Not that it proves anything, I think the Wii is down too on the other hand (721k -> 601k).
It's just that KZ2 didn't have nearly the effect that Sony might have hoped for to counter the high price point and bolster hardware sales...
Imo of course

I agree that all is relative. Comparatively speaking, Halo Wars looks like a bust to me at 640k, given the huge franchise and the 360 base installed...

I tend to agree that Halo Wars is a relative bust. Is there a bigger (non-Nintendo) name right now than Halo?

I'm curious how many returns Halo Wars had. Its commercial was way disingenuous, if not outright dishonest.

We just need a decent price cut really & were in business as they say

Seriously hope PS4 or whatever they call it if made is cheaper at launch, cause they should have all the basic components ready, Cell 2, Blu-Ray 100GB etc

Sony has suffered enormously this generation

Wii was a suprise hit & the fad & novelty of it hasn't worn off & let's give credit where it's due, M$ had a lot better adverts cinema or TV wise than Sony

Next Gen, cheaper release price, great games, focus on paying a bit for great exclusives & better marketing & they will dominate

agreed, next gen they won't spend as much on R&D and I think they will try to beat MS to the punch with the release date. Sony has lost the dominance they once had with this gen and MS has earned a fairly secure spot in the industry, although at a huge cost. Friggin Nintendo better have a sweet console next time around

On a smaller user base.

I'll agree though, it's seems like it's really tough to get an unknown franchise going.

I meant month to month. So February to March.

Halo Wars is the best selling console RTS isn't it? It's hard to say if it was a disappointment or not considering we don't know what their expectations for it were.

Above 1 million. It might gain 50k or so in Japan soon.
