Arrow Believe It - Universal is Making a Where's Waldo Movie

Sorry fellas.

Quote:
Universal, who has milked Hasbro for every last board game and action figure movie they can, is now turning it's attention to Where's Waldo?. The studio has picked up the movie rights to the popular children's books series from Classic Media with the aim of making a live-action family movie. No word on a writer or director yet, only a producer - Chris Meledandri. A previous iteration of Where's Waldo? was in development at Paramount and Nickelodeon, where John Schultz was attached to direct a script that had been worked on by writers Adam Rifkin, Adam Cooper and Bill Collage. You know what, this could work.

For those of you who just can't imagine a Where's Waldo? movie, here's the concept that they came up with when the project was in development at Paramount. Waldo, now 30, ends up traveling through time after accidentally activating a malfunctioning travel machine. Pretty simple, in a whimsical Bedtime Stories kind of way, but you know what, it could make for a good kid's movie. I haven't picked up a Waldo book in forever, so it's obviously meant for that age range. But then again, maybe I'm being overly optimistic, as this is the same studio that's also making Monopoly, Stretch Armstrong, Candyland, and Battleship movies.

Do people under the age of 20 even know who Waldo is?

Nothing shocks me anymore. I can't wait for a Captain Crunch movie where he battles the Soggies and a Cookie Crisp movie where the The Cookie Cop has to capture The Cookie Crook and his dog. Word has it that Cookie Monster may have an apperance as the villian behind the scene...

I can believe it, I mean after all, they really should rename the flick "Where's Ken Graffeo" after all he disappeared once HD-DVD got flushed.

greatest response from a movie site that i've read:

Quote:
Universal is planning to make a movie based on Where's Waldo, the completely plotless series of books in which you have to find a guy dressed in a red-striped sweater and a ski hat. That's like making a movie called I Spy that isn't based on the TV series. That's like making a feature version of Goodnight Moon. And for all I know, both of those projects are currently in development at some hellish studio.

Back years ago a co-worker and myself were bored one night and came up with a video game idea "K-CAR RACING ", the idea was every time you broke down you had to find a junk yard that had the right part to fix your Dodge k-car.Maybe I sould pitch that to a movie studio if things are this desperate.

They could make it like "Dude, Where's My Car?" except with a person. Bunch of buddies go drinking one night and have to find their buddy Waldo, who has gone off on all sorts of adventures involving wizardry and whatever other crap they're going to incorporate from the books. Real stoner comedy here!

Wow, am I the only one somewhat interested in this? I remember quite liking the animated tv show back in the day, and I could see them making this movie a pretty decent family flick.

I do. Although I'm 19, so I barely qualify. Either way, terrible movie idea.

You just did, out in a theater near you, 2011.

They could easily make this PG-13. Waldo gets kidnapped by thugs and held for ransom.
'R' rated version is Waldo is a druggie, sells his body for a fix, goes bad and the whole movie is an out of body experience.

While the police are searching for a strung-out Waldo?

Make his dad Liam Neeson, Taken 2: Where is Waldo. He has acquired a very particular set of skills over the years finding Waldo.

The guy from the Verizon "Can you hear my now" commercials could play Waldo. Not sure if he can act, but he is a dead ringer of the character.
