Default Am I Crazy For Thinking About Doing This?

OK y'all I need some honest objective thoughts on this and I don't want to post this on any pure gaming site because of fanboy spamming one way or the other.

Keeping in mind that I already own a stand alone Blu Ray player for playing my blu's should I get a PS3 for it's exclusive titles or not. I love the 360 for third party games like Madden but I love baseball and am fed up with the poor excuse that is the 2K franchise even after 3 years now it's nowhere near MLB The Show.

So is the Show and other PS3 exclusive titles worth the 549 before tax I would have to spend. 399.99 for the PS3, 79.99 for the Sony - HDMI Cable / USB 2.0 Cable Pack for PlayStation 3 and 59.99 for MLB 09 The Show or not?

I had both Xbox 360 and PS3 at one point and I decided to get rid of the 360 because I thought the PS3 was a better gaming console. I think you will be very satisfied with the PS3. I would get it. There are some excellent exclusive games; i.e The Show, Resistance, Little Big Planet etc. But if you do plan on getting the PS3, please dont spend 80 dollars for the HDMI cable. Go to Monoprice.com for them, they are WAY cheaper and just as good.

Thanks for that, FYI though the price is for a PS3 controller changer cord and HDMI cable together.

To be quite honest we have both an Xbox 360 and PS3 set up in the living room. I enjoy playing games on both. The great thing about having both systems is the fact you can enjoy both's exclusive titles. You can't go wrong getting a PS3, we started with the Xbox and then picked up the PS3 later. Even if you don't play games on it, it is still a great addition to your home theater. Definitely don't pay $70 for an HDMI cable.

I would just buy the USB cable here:
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/AS...0QQ/ref=nosim/

and buy the HDMI cable here; you'll save a lot of money:

Raz Man, just buy a 80gb PS3 for $399, order a HDMI cable off Monoprice (if you're in the US/Canada because shipping does not ruin the price).

The PS3 controller charge cable is just a Sony branded USB A->B cable, you can buy those off monoprice if you want a second one (the ps3 comes with 1 controller and 1 charge cable).

Personally I think the ps3 is a much better designed console than the xbox360 (built in wifi, less probability of hardware failure, wireless controllers, and free online services, and blu-ray). However, there is no doubt that the X360 has some killer exclusives...

I also think that a large number of x360 users are still playing their xbox on a standard def TV, so the blu-ray does not benefit them at all, possibly why many people choose the xbox's good price over the PS3's more expensive, but much more hi-def friendly benefits.

This is no reliable indication of an upcoming price drop at this time. Retail flyers etc.

Really it does thanks I didn't realize the free controller came with a charger cord. I'm going to recheck Best Buy and Gamestop's prices on HDMI Cables first then. I don't like shopping online for gaming if something happens to the console in store swapping while under warranty is so much easier!

Thanks everyone seems it is indeed worth having both.

^ Well to be honest since I'm in a wheelchair when I shop the more I can do at one place the better, I'm looking at all possibilities though. Anyone know how long of an HDMI cable I'll need to go from the back of my TV to the PS3?

I just dont want you spending large amounts of money when you dont need to...

Best Buy HDMI=$70-$200
Monoprice HDMI=$4

the length depends on how far your PS3 in from you TV. Can I ask how you have it set up

Only you can know that but I think the shortest I've seen is a 4-footer. If it's all in the same entertainment center, that should be fine but what's important is the optimal BD setup and if you're talking about going from your PS3 to your tv, I would skip the PS3 now and save up for an HDMI receiver. IMHO.

He's talking about getting a PS3 for the gaming aspect, not watching movies

Sadly all I have at the moment is a webcam so no I can't take a picture but this is my TV http://www.amazon.com/Vizio-quot-1080p-LCD-HDTV/dp/B001GKK14I. The PS3 would be hooked up to HDMI2 on the right side in the back and be placed next to the 360 on a counter in front of the TV. It's just like a kitchen counter one level so I can reach everything.

it sounds like 6 feet should be enough.

is there any question it wouldn't reach? cause if you're not sure..no harm in going bigger. better than coming up short

^Very true thanks and yeah I just hate having to roll up extra cable it's so annoying. One last question for owners of The Show. I've heard it's better to let it run in 720p than 1080P is that true and if so why?
