Cautiously optimistic. English-language debuts for acclaimed foreign directors are usually mediocre at best. Also, not the biggest fan of Johnson.

Wounds is an upcoming American psychological horror film, written and directed by Babak Anvari, based on the novella The Visible Filth by Nathan Ballingrud. It stars Armie Hammer, Dakota Johnson, Zazie Beetz, Karl Glusman and Brad William Henke.

It will have its world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival on January 26, 2019. It is scheduled to be released on March 29, 2019, by Annapurna Pictures.

The little I've seen of Johnson, I liked her. But that's very little right now. Hammer's great. I don't know Beetz at all. But sounds interesting.

I've been waiting for news on this one.

I think Annapurna was planning theatrical here in the US, but given their financial woes I guess they sent it to Hulu? I feel badly their company is failing, but at the same time I kind of like that I don't have to leave the house for this one.

Also, between Wounds and Little Monsters, HULU's Halloween line-up is shaping up to be much more interesting than NetFlix's.

That is definitely the most “we swear, it’s a real horror film” since It Comes At Night.

Looks good though, hopefully a UK release isn’t too far off the table.

EDIT: looks like Netflix are releasing it internationally on the same day.

Someone who went to Sundance and saw it there told me they were hoping to sell it to Netflix after reception wasn't great. Probably for the best as it wouldn't have done well. I'm looking forward to it though. I am a fan of Armie and Dakota. I think it looks fun.

It's definitely a step down from Under the Shadows, but I'll watch it since it's on Hulu this Halloween season.
