Default HT update with integrated HD antenna

Had to order a new ATSC tuner with an HDMI output...will update the Kuro showing the signal quality from the antenna when I receive it this week.

Future additions to this HT include new carpeting, painting the room, eliminating a large wall window, movie posters and two rows of home theatre seating (3 seats each).

That is one skinny room all right. Do you absolutely need all of the furniture in there? It just looks soo tight. The equipment you have is excellent, especially the Kuro. Nice job on the antenna and the power boost set-up in the attaic, appears you paid a lot of attention to detail. How many times has the clock fallen off the A2-300? I can't imagine that not rattling at least a little bit.....you did a really nice job on purchasing the right wiring, equipment etc.....to me, the room just appears to need more space. Lastly, how well do the blinds keep out the light? It looks like light seeps through if they are moved, correct? Very nice job overall though!

The furniture is a bit packed but it's temporary. Kinda coazy at the moment to be honest. Anyway, our plan is to replace everything with two rows of home theater seating (3 seats per row).

The rest of the furniture will be moved to another portion of our home.

The light (in daytime) is more than I want but does not affect the Kuro's picture quality. The blinds cover a row of windows the entire length of the wall. I want to drywall the entire thing up but my wife will only let me do about half because she wants windows in the room. The remaining window will be replaced with one that has internal blinds to eliminate all the external ones altogether.

This room has good acoustics and is completely immersive in full Dolby sound. It literally is better than being in a movie theater.

Funny thing you asking about that clock. When I watch something with serious explosions I look down to see if it's still there. I need to go outside sometime and see if the neighbors can hear when I have the sound cranked. I'm unsure how far that sound carries through walls.

Well, getting the furniture out and some theater seating in will make that space look much, much better IMOA. I do have to ask if you think 3 wide theater seating is going to make things awefully tight to get by. have you measured the width of the room and checked what theater seating is out there that would allow for walk-by space? If so and treating the windows too is a plus, then that surely will be an excellent HT room. By the way....I really luv those eD subs....I need to step in that department and will soon, after I obtain my seperates first.

Make sure you don't get the spike pointy feet. They give you little dime size discs to set those spikes on and it doesn't work. It's the only complaint I have.

That subwoofer is a freaking beast. Very pleased with it. I have it set for all bass (LFE+MAIN) and it handles it like nobody's business. I put in an older Godzilla movie (one of the 2000-ish Toho ones...DVD) and was floored at how well it performed with an older track.

As far as the seating goes, I haven't measured it....but visually I'm guessing I'll have @ 2 feet clearance on either side assuming I go with 3-row curved type seating. If the fit is too tight, I would opt to go with 3 rows of 2-seat. The room is deep enough to support this. The rear seating I'll build risers for.

Yeah, I have heard of the points, but I have my sub on a riser that I built, as I have cermic tile on the floor (pics in my gallery). It has helped to improve the sub's responsiveness and sound a good bit. Alot of peole have raved about that eD A2-300, but unfortunately I missed out on the price point of $350 (now is $400) but soon enough.

Sounds like you got it all planned out for the seating. I think you are doing a good job and I'm sure you can see the finish line.

Ah okay ... yes the riser you made is a clever idea. I might have to steal that This sub weighs like 75 lbs which really drives the spikes down into the floor.

I like the ceramics....guessing that makes for some interesting acoustics.

It's a pain is the a$$ to be honest. What I really need are more room treatments for the acoustics, like the foam panels a lot of members use here. Only problem with that is they are aesthetically not all the great to look at, and this is something the wife stopped me at. I do have an area rug not too far in front of the front soundstage, but that's it. I use only 1/2 of the basement (its rectangular) the back 1/2 is my daughter/son play area, so I do not have first reflection points behind me. If I cold treat the side walls and the ceiling, I would hopefully notice a difference, but that will be for another room that will be a dedicated HT in another house...which will happen in a few years.....

i thought antenna's were going to be obsolete when everything went digital? or do you just need a converter box.

You need an antenna if you don't have satellite or cable service.

And if you use an antenna, your TVs have to be able to process the digital signal. My Kuro (monitor) does not have a tuner (channel changer) and most of the TVs in my home are not digital.

So yes, converter boxes are required with the old ones and the Kuro has a digital tuner that connects to the receiver via HDMI cable.
