Maybe it is just me, but I just finished watching The Mist for the first time on Blu-ray...It was a great movie with great PQ and AQ...but man it is so stressful. I have seen a lot of movies, made me feel so stressed out...With the combination of the Crazy Christian (i believe in God but she was just downright annoying), the ending, the scene at the pharmacy, pretty much the whole movie...
Especially the ending...I'm not saying go with something different but man... Don't get me wrong, it was a great movie, but it just really stressed me out..... I have seen a lot of movies, but this one may stick out in my mind as being so stressful to watch... Did anyone else feel this way after watching The Mist? |

not so much the mist but as much as i liked 28 weeks later i can never watch it again, there was just something about when the guy got set on fire that was excrutiating. not the physical violence of the scene, just the helplessness of it all. and i have no problem watching violent films usually. it was the same with irreversible. sitting through an 8 minute uncut rape scene is pretty uncomfortable, but it was more the fact that there was nothing uplifting as a tradeoff.

Frank Darabont introduces the black and white version saying that it is his preferred version. I disagree with Darabont and prefer the color version because the movie was not designed or shot for black and white; the black and white version was apparently accomplished by merely removing the color from the film. This artificial black and white ends up sacrificing much of the detail that is discernible in the color version and everything appears murkier than it should. If Darabont had actually been able to originally shoot in black and white, then I'm sure I would be much happier with the look of the movie than I am with the black and white version we have now.

my answer is because i'm sick of so many happy hollywood endings. there are movies you go to the theater to have a good time with, and movies that do more than just skim the surface of their content. to me this movie was a bit of both, and i enjoyed seeing a writer/director do something daring that not everyone would walk away from with a satisfied/happy feeling.
