Default Subwoofer question

Hey all,

I'm new to Home theaters and just have a question. I just bought a HTIB from amazon. Here is the link: http://www.amazon.com/Polk-Audio-HTS-9405-5-1-Channel-Receiver/dp/B001JEOQV0

It came with a Polk Audio PSW111 8" subwoofer. The bass is pretty good, it's just not quite cutting it for me, though.

My question is, would it be better to purchase an identical 8" sub, and use a y splitter to hook both of them to the receiver, or would it be better to purchase a 12" sub (like the PSW505) and use that one by itself? Or...could I purchase the 12" sub and use that one in conjunction with 8" I already have? Which option do you guys think is best?

Thanks!

They will probably move this to the sub forum.

I would recommend looking outside of Polk for a sub.

Some good brands: eD (loved on this forum), HSU, Outlaw Audio, SVS, etc..
There should be lots of info on these in the sub forum.

You will get a lot more for your money with these subs.

Also, you could always use the 8" with another sub, but I think if you get a decent 10" or 12" you might not need it. What is your room size? What is your budget?

For a little more than the PSW505 you can get the A2-300, which is highly recommended from this site's members.

Look into getting one very good sub unless you have some funny room dimensions where you notice some dead spots void of any bass. That is really what 2 subs would be for. However, if you get, say the eD A2-300 now (this is going up in price very very soon, so I would jump on this). It is an awesome sub, much better than another one of the same. Polk are known for their speakers more so than subs, if you want a new sub, I would look at the A2-300, as it is a beast and right now you can't beat it's performance or price point.

If you do decide to use a new better sub with your current PSW111, put the better sub in your front soundstage (by the TV and front speakers) and then find what sounds like a good place for your Polk sub. This may require some moving around the sub. You would need a Y-splitter out of your sub-out of your receiver for using 2 subs.

Thats my 2 cents anyway!

EDIT: Geez I see a theme here..........

Lemme break the theme, then.

What's your budget? If it's about $350, then yeah, get the eD and soon. As mentioned it's going up in price. It's also huge so please take into account getting it in your doorway.

If it's less, look at the Acoustic Audio and Premier Acoustic threads on this forum. $229 or less will get you a decent bang-for-your-buck sub.

If it's more, then look at SVS, Hsu and AV123. Personally I'd go with the SVS myself if I had the room and the cash. Otherwise I'd grab a Hsu and not look back.
