I know this has a new remaster if the Amazon info is correct, but they're really putting this on the 'Presents' line? Really?

I just like the Jerry Goldsmith score.
... and visually the ending is very much like the ending to THE LEGEND OF HELL HOUSE, as read in the book, and not seen in the film.

Finally. The movie isn't great, but I enjoy it, and the atmosphere and set designs are top-notch.

I know general opinion is that this isn't a good movie. But I think people compare it too much to the original. That was a spectacular and unique movie that's perfect in it's own right.
But this one deserves a second chance. If people are warming up to the Dark Castle films, they should do the same for this one.

I'm always glad when any film comes out on Blu-ray as it has its fans. However, not a single cell me wants to watch this again at any point in my life.

Question

I haven't seen this in a long time. Not a great movie, if I recall, but some great atmosphere and set design.

I haven't gotten into the Paramount Presents line yet. What kind of quality / extras can we expect? Comparable to a Scream! Factory Special Edition? (Assumption based on price.)

I bought the region free Umbrella Entertainment Blu-ray a couple months back. I hadn't seen the film in probably close to 18 years or so, so I was looking forward to seeing it again as I remembered the cinematography and set designs were beautiful and very memorable. The Blu-ray itself looked and sounded very nice, but geez the movie is even worse than I remember it being. Lousy story, poor pacing, and overuse of digital effects are just some of the problems with this version. I think I'll just be sticking with the original film from here on out....

If this is a Paramount Presents release, does that mean it'll be a fancy package? Liek something a bit oversized than a normal blu-ray?

And I say this as a fan of The Haunting (1999), how does this warrant a Paramount Presents release while The Odd Couple has been consigned to a BD-R?

For the same reason Ghost, Fatal Attraction, Airplane! and Flashdance got re-released...all corny films that made a lot of money (yes, even The Haunting did $).

This Paramount Presents shtick isn't anything to be snobby about and think only prestigious films are a part of it. It's not an elite product line...it's just marketing glitz to re-suck even more money out of consumers cause...4K remaster, ya know.

I guess it makes sense that this is coming out with the popularity of Mike Flanagan’s reboot on Netflix (another Paramount production). I might pick this up if it’s dirt cheap, if only for completion’s sake. I’m pretty sure that cover is fanmade BTW. It’s literally just the old DVD art resized in a generic Blu-ray template (not the one Paramount usually uses).

Well, actually The Haunting was a flop. While it grossed 90m+, it cost 80m. Which means, they probably spent an additional 30m in advertising and distribution, making it cost a total of 110m. And theaters get, approximately, 45% of the box office receipts, which means only about 50m got kicked back to the studio. Ultimately meaning that the film probably lost the studio close to 60m in theaters. It probably recouped some of it with Pay-per-view, TV sales and VHS sales. I'd still wager it took a loss.

Point of the story is, the film did not make money. But the others you mentioned made boat loads.

Bout damn time. This movie sucks but I love the novel and the 1963 film and I have fond memories of seeing this in IMAX in NYC on mushrooms.

I actually think Airplane! is a classic. The rest are just so so. That cover for The Haunting is AWFUL.

Jerry Goldsmith's score is, indeed, amazing (did he ever do anything that wasn't?) but, otherwise, this movie is an utter abomination.
