is he suggesting a 500GB disc is enough to hold the equivalent of my entire blu-ray collection?

I think he's implying that right now, it's only 500gb, but that's only scratching the surface of this new technology.

I think 3.9 TB is the max they can go to eventually on a standard disc size.

Blu-rays can already do nearly that amount. Hopefully this is just a tip of the iceberg type of deal. I can't wait for the Pioneer 400GB Blus to be released.

Sounds like a ton, but in reality it would be the standard size for the 2K format movies, and that's with compression of course. 2K makes BR literally look like a joke though!

And then of course there's a direct 4K transfer from the RED digi-cameras, they have a type of Red-Ray player already but I doubt they have the media for it, 4k quality is around 1GB/s. Forget capacity, BANDWIDTH is your main culprit here!

Digital cinema FTW

Stop me if I'm wrong, but that is basically what Blu-ray is.

I keep forgeting when people refer to 2k and 4k res they aren't talking about vertical pixel count, I believe it's horizontal so I may have spoke too soon. If anyone who knows something about RED cameras wants to speak up here...
