Default PS3 60 gig DD+????

I have a 60 gig PS3. This site does not have the 60 gig PS3 listed in the players section. Just the 40, and 80 gig. Under the specs for those two models, it says the they both support DD+. Is this true for just those two models, or should my 60 gig support it as well? I know its not that big of a deal, but the only disc I have that has DD+ is U-571 for french and spanish. When I select the DD+ tracks, the PS3 just reads it as dolby digital. So, does the PS3 support DD+ or not? I would really like any info I can get on this subject. Thanks.

It should be supported? I have hundreds & hundreds & Hundreds & hundreds of BD's and not one has DD+. I guess some Euro BDs do huh? Since I have never seen DD+ pop up on my Onkyo or anything else I really don't know... If the 40gb & 80gb can do it then the 60gb can to. Your just missing something?? Can u flip between DD & DD+?

Yes your 60GB can support it, there is no difference between the SKUs besides the ability to play PS2 games and the number of USB ports.

I think DD + is just a higher bitrate, not a different format.

I do not ever expect to see it light up on my onkyo either, do to the PS3's bitstream short comings. I also know that it is a seperate format that was created to help with the lack of space on HD-DVD and that the bitrate can go as 1.5 meg a sec. I was just wondering if anyone has seen DD+ show up on the PS3's info screen at the top right under sound format. Or if it just shows up as DD with a differnt bitrate other than 448, or 640. Thanks.

I have an 80G PS3 and I just tried U-571 using the French and Spanish DD+ audio. In the info in the upper right corner they both indicated just Dolby Digital at 384kbps. No '+' was shown.

Most of the time it's because it's a HD DVD port and the design people made a mistake.

384 is DVD DD Bitrate (448 is one also).

Thanks for confirming the info. I ordered the trueHD Blu-ray demo, and it has some scences that are in DD+ 5.1 and 7.1. Guess I'll have to wait untill it gets here to see if the PS3 will read it in DD+, or DD. This is by no means a big deal, I just want to know if the PS3 supports DD+ or not. And i also want to know if its supported through PCM or bitstream.

Bitstream of lossless audio is not supported. Don't know if DD+ can be bitstreamed through optical but I'm guessing not.

I am not sure if you mentioned this or not but change your settings from Bitstream to Linear PCM. I am not sure what Onkyo receiver you have but if you want HD sound you will need to make sure it is set accordingly.

It is an onkyo tx-sr605. And yes, I have always had it set to LPCM for ths lossless sounds. I'm running it through HDMI 1.3 as well.

DD+ isnt bitstreamed on HDDUD so i'd doubt it would on BD since BD's is capable of higher bit-rate.

DD+ is supported on the PS3, all models.
Output has to be set to PCM.

In the setup menu for the PS3, if you click "About" you'll see the logo at the end.

There are a couple discs out there. BD DD+ is only for 7.1 mixes.

There are BD players that can bitstream it, just as they do TrueHD and DTS-HD High Resolution and DTS-HD Master Audio.

HD-DVD had to use DD+ to get over the DVD 448kbps limit. Since DD can be 640kbps on BD and there's no audible advantage to the DD+ 1536kbps rate HD DVD used there was no reason to include it in the BD optional spec.
