Hi,
I recently bought the UK version of Star Trek: Original Motion Picture Collection. I have a problem with the menus, specifically on "The Undiscovered Country" The pop-up menu graphics are incorrect. The main menu should have: PLAY SETTINGS SCENES EXTRAS (works correctly on all the other films) But it actually displays PLAY BOOKMARKS HAKESPEARE UECONTINU Looks like all the graphics are there, simply misplaced. If you go to the scene select menu, then some of the scene icons are also misplaced. I've tried this on a PS3 and on a PC using Total Media Theatre, with identical results. Everything else on the disc appears to play as expected. It's just the menus. Is anyone else having this problem? Thanks for your help Liz Edit: See Elizabeth's posts (Posts #23 & #29) for fix. I dont have the film collection, but have you updated your firmware drivers to the latest version on your bluray player? or if your using a pc bluray player maybe update the software player or the firmware for the bluray unit? or try another software player? Also get the latest drivers for your graphics card installed
![]() I have had a few problems with recently released titles with my pc player, but an update of the software fixed it, I did have to wait a while for the update Last edited by matts4it; 04-28-2009 at 01:55 PM. |

Shakespeare? I realize the title of the film comes from Hamlet and and Kang or whatever his name is likes to quote Shakespeare throughout the movie...perhaps it was a placeholder.
I don't know if I'd exchange that disc. If its rare and not a widespread issue, there are Star Trek fans who dig that sort of thing and might actually pay a premium for it. |

The PS3 has the latest firmware, as does Arcsoft Total Media theatre on the PC. Also, I've now tried WinDVD and PowerDVD, all with identical results. It's possible that this problem only exists on the UK disc, so I would be grateful if someone with the UK disc can confirm whether the menus work correctly on The Undiscovered Country. Thanks Liz |

Hmmm, maybe its a fault on that particular disc. I'd wait for some one to get back to you in the forum. It could be a faulty batch of discs for just that film. You may have to send it back. Do you have a friend who can play the disc on their bluray system? Other then that.. It can only be a fault. Hopefully some one will get back to you

Hi,
I also have the UK version and have the same menu issues. Looked on amazon.co.uk and someone has mentioned it there in their review. I was going to send it back but not sure what to do now. |

Yup, exactly the same problem with my UK boxset. I am curious to see what reply you receive from paramount Liz, thanx in advance for any info you can share. Not sure if it's worth sending back yet, would it be fair to assume that any replacements will have the same fault? Anyway, aside from the obvious, I'd just like to say this is an amazing collection, the movies look great and The Captains' Summit on the 7th disc is a wonderful extra that I think all fans will enjoy.

I'm having the same issue on my PS3. I do have a work around though. I noticed it only happened when my playstation was connected to the Internet and I'd gone on the bd-live stuff. So I pulled the network plug and deleted my bd data an it worked. Not a perfect solution, but it got the menus back.

I've got the same problem- brought mine from HMV so i was going to take it back this morning but im a bit stumped now- are we thinking this is an issue with PS3 playback?
Undiscovered Country was the second disc i viewed after the bonus disc and i was amazed how bad it looked- trying to make sense of the garbled menu was near impossible coupled with how irritated i felt. Either way it's damn annoying that a set costing up to £80 could have bypassed any kind of quality control- really disappointing. What are you folks going to do? Wupton |

This also might explain stargazeruk, why you did not see the same issue on software players, if you hadn't accessed the BD-Live content. This implies the data on the disc is actually correct. It may be that the problem can be fixed if that is the case by changing something on the Paramount servers. I believe most BD-Live discs, use a boot strapping process. Only a very simple loader is placed on the disc, and all the BD-J code is downloaded via the internet. This has the major advantage that bugs in the downloaded code can easily be fixed, without changing the disc. Either way, as things are at the moment I think it's clear that all discs will have the same issue. So there's no point in getting it replaced just yet. I'll wait and see what Paramount has to say. I am glad that I am not the only one and will try and disconnect the PS3 from the Wi-Fi to watch the extras. What a Palava though!
The Picture and sound quality are amazing though. Really pleased with the set and even makes the abysmal Star Trek 5 almost watchable...although I say almost! |

I just received my box-set, and in light of the issues highlighted, put in Star Trek VI right away. It worked fine for me. I'm using the Sony Blu-ray player S350. It should be noted that a firmware update was released for the S350 last Friday, firmware update 19. Anyone having issues with this player should probably update their firmware. I tried the disk firstly without my player connected to the internet, as this was one theory I had read about. I also then tried it connected to the internet so that the disk could download the BD-Live software, and the disk was fine in both situations. Hope this helps

I think it may be at this point that it downloads the content that breaks the menus. I'll do some further testing myself this evening. Edit: Actually, I don't think this is the problem. When I tried it on a PC player last night (Total Media Theatre) The first disc I tried was Undiscovered Country. I didn't do anything except start up the disc, and the menus were immediately corrupted Liz Last edited by Elizabeth; 04-29-2009 at 11:15 AM. |
