Default Official NFL Offseason Thread

Now that the draft is over I thought we should have an NFL offseason thread.

This has already been discussed in the draft thread a bit but for those who aren't aware the roof collapsed Saturday at the Dallas Cowboys practice facility during a rookie minicamp, injuring 12. A Cowboys scout has been paralyzed from the waist down, and the team's special team's coach fractured a vertebrae. Here's a link for some fantastic pictures from the Dallas Morning News:

As for my team (jaguars), some of the players think we have a good chance of making it to the playoffs this year. I don't think I'll keep my hopes high just yet. Too early to tell.

I don't really understand why the Jags were so bad last year after making the 2nd round of the playoffs the year before. I think if Garrard plays well they have a chance at the playoffs but they have a tough division and schedule. I personally thought they should have taken Crabtree as they have no threats at receiver.

My question is, how many games will it take for Stafford to start?

They blamed their 5-11 record to free agency especially siging of Jerry Porter. But then, I think it was our injuries on the O line that made our run game look like crap. Can't blame the injuries, but we did draft 2 OT 1st and 2nd round to give us some relief. I'm also glad we got Big Game Torry Holt, but not sure it's enough to get our struggling passing attack in gear with the rest of the league.

The jags have a trend of making the playoffs every other year under Jack Del Rio. Honestly, I'm giving him one more year!

2005 12-4 (Lost to NE wildcard)
2006 8-8
2007 11-5 (Lost to NE divisional)
2008 5-11
2009 ?? I don't think we'll make it

I hope Freddy T produces up in NE. I would like to see the Pats go all the way this year since Brady should be 100 %

Here is my take. Atlanta will be the team to beat in the NFC as long as their defense can hold opponets under three touchdowns. The AFC is still the best conference with the Steelers, Chargers, Colts and Pats. AFC will win the SB again just not sure what team yet. As far as the draft goes, I think the Dolphins if they utilize Pat White in that Wildcat Offense will show the best improvement. I also like what the Niners did in the draft and now there are two stories about them trying to get Peppers and Vick. The Lions IMO messed up. They should have traded the #1 pick for more picks, because Stafford is going to be a bust! 2nd coming of Ryan Leaf. Too much guaranteed money thrown at him too soon.

I blame the Offense on the Jags. You have to. They get to the other teams 30 yard line and can't score a TD. All I've seen from them the last 2 years have been like this. FG,FG,FG,TD,FG,FG,FG,FG,FG,FG,FG,TD!?,FG. 2 years ago there wins were by 1 to 3 points. Why FG's.

I have to agree. However the 2007-08 season we had a very good year in offense. I think we were on of the best on converting 3rd down conversions which led to blow outs at the end of the year.

Last year our defense was weak giving up big plays, while our offense was bad from running like under 3yds per carry, and a lot of key drop passes in games. Oh may I mention... Mercedes Lewis = Butterfingers!

If Detroit's line is as bad this year as it was last year I'd sit Stafford all year. I don't care if you put Tom Brady or Peyton Manning at quarterback, behind that line they wouldn't win 5 games and they'd get injured. Stafford's confidence could be permanently killed if he's getting hit everytime he drops back.

I think the Favre story has overtaken A Rod as the most annoying story in sports. I watched most of Favre's game last year and he doesn't have it anymore. He's been too beat up throughout his career and his refusal to have surgery after last season isn't helping. Favre is just killing his legacy. If he had left after his initial retirement he would have been a god in Wisconsin. Even if he left after last year his legacy would be fine, but now he wants to go to the Packers arch-rival. If he does play for the Vikings I will be very interested when he plays at Green Bay. I'm curious if they would give him a standing ovation or boo him.

Well, I'm hoping that the Seahawks' 4-12 season will be soon forgotten now that the team seems to have drafted so well, and did pretty good in FA. Curry sounds like a beast and draftees Deon Butler and Max Unger are looking impressive.

The defensive backfield with Hill, Tatupu and Curry sounds menacing. I really like what I see. Other Seahawks fans seem to like what was done in the offseason as well.

This. Just go away Brett.. You're done.

If I have to hear "He just wants to have fun out there" etc. I'm gonna puke.

I have a few customers in WI and they can't stand him (they used to love him). I'll have to check with my customers in MN. They used to loathe Favre lol we shall see...

Lifelong Packers fan here, from Chicago nonetheless

It took me awhile to forgive Ted Thompson for the way he handled the Brett Favre extravaganza. But really, Favre put Thompson in a difficult position telling him he was going to hang em up and then turning the tables and making Thompson look like the bad guy for not welcoming him back when he changed his mind. Realistically, they had a first round pick sitting on the bench for 3 years waiting for his chance. What was Thompson supposed to do? Let Rodgers walk so Favre could play another year or two in GB? It would've hurt the Packers more than it would've helped to let Favre go another year or two. Rodgers said and did all the right things during his 3 years in GB. It was his turn to take the reins and be the QB. He has a TON of potential.

Make no mistake about it though, Favre will be coming back. And to the same division he played in for 90% of his career. And he's going to be wearing that UGLY purple jersey. I dont know how i feel about it, being that Favre changes his mind like i change my socks. If he wants to play until his arm falls off, so be it. It's Brett Favre. I love the guys passion and intensity. Playing with Adrian Peterson in the backfield will definately open things up for Favre and his receivers. I believe if he does come back, we could easily see him have a career year and the Vikings could go deep into the playoffs. Time will tell

I think they should let him sit the whole year just watch and next year if your in the top 10 in picks take an oline man and really get going... It would be wrong to throw him in and think matt ryan lotta pressure on him.

I hope Brett does indeed come back and play for the Vikings!
I'm a big Vikings fan ever since they got Adrian Peterson and Favre would no doubt make them WAY better. I could see them going deep into the playoffs.

Keep in mind that he is coming back for TWO games. It's all about revenge. His passion is not for the game, and definitely not for the team. It's for himself.

jk

Other than QB, the Vikings have all the assets to make a deep run in the playoffs. But he's finished. He has the mobility of a bag of concrete. He also still throws dangerous passes that usually end up being intercepted.
