Default Does every Blu-ray player display 1080i through component?

I have a 65 inch Mitsubishi ws-a65 1080i. It only has component connections so I can't use DVI or HDMI cables. I bought a DVD upconverter and since I have to run it through component it maxes out at 480p because it doesn't allow it to send the higher definition through component for reasons that I don't understand. Reading various pages I think I could hook up a Blu-ray through component and it would give me a 1080i signal.

Since I don't have HDMI or DVI I would need the Blu-ray player to send the 1080i through component because it would just be a waste of money if it doesn't. Does every Blu-ray player send the 1080i output through component or are they just a selected few? Also since I'm just pretty much new to the Blu-ray, I see that the Blu-ray players have to have the firmware updated every so often. Will this always be the case with Blu-ray players or is there a point where it would stop? I would hate to by a Blu-ray player and then a few years from now i find out they stopped offering new firmware for the player I bought because they discontinued production on that model.

Thanks
