I was watching this game when it happened. I was like "oh snap! he's completely out!" Man, I'll give him his props for going all out 100%, but damn, he didn't even catch the ball.....that is what sucks most of all (except I'm a Phillies fan, so I got over it rather quickly, LOL!)

Glad to hear that it is only "whiplash" as they are calling it.

So he made the highlight reel, but for the wrong reason.

LOL....that was funny......yeah, I had meant that he made the catch but dropped it when he took the header into the wall. Reminds me of when Aaron Rowand made an over the shoulder catch as his face went into the fencing in center field at Cititzens Bank Park in Philly 3 years ago. He broke his nose and became kinda like a folk hero out here in Philly after that catch. The difference between the two is that Rowand held on to the ball.

I applaud the effort, you don't see that kind of hustle too much these days.

I remember the Rowand catch. That was a fantastic play. Now we have him here in SF, and he hasn't really produced. He does still hustle, though.

I hope he's ok. Never is a good thing when a player gets carted off the field.

He did catch the ball, and it was called for an out. He switched the ball into his throwing hand before hitting the wall, and then when he got knocked out, the ball popped loose.

Though it's not a situation to really laugh about, I got a laugh from reading this quote, from Chris Duncan (the outfielder nearest Ankiel when it happened), after the game:

I don't remember them calling that an out. I thought Pedro Feliz remained on base....mmmm, maybe I "assumed" it......done't know....anyway....

That is a great quote toefer....but an even better effort. Considering everything Ankiel has been through in his career, we need more guys like him to stick around.
