Default Tax Collector (dir. David Ayer)

Quote:
David Ayer Sets Gritty LA Crime Thriller ‘Tax Collector;’ Shia LaBeouf, Bobby Soto Star

EXCLUSIVE: David Ayer is squeezing a gritty indie crime thriller in between directing Bright and its sequel. Ayer has begun pre-production on Tax Collector, a crime thriller he wrote and will direct in Los Angeles this summer with Shia LaBeouf and Bobby Soto starring. Cross Creek Pictures is funding the film, which is a co-production between Cross Creek and Cedar Park Entertainment. Latter is led by Ayer and Chris Long, who just made a first look deal with eOne for television. Tax Collector harkens back to Ayer’s earlier gritty crime thrillers Training Day (which he wrote and Antoine Fuqua directed) and End of Watch, which Ayer directed. They are keeping plot under wraps. Cross Creek credits include Black Swan, Black Mass, American Made, and Hacksaw Ridge.

Ayer wrote Tax Collector and Long (Mr. Mercedes) will be the producer. Cross Creek is repped by CAA Media Finance and Schuyler Moore of Greenberg Glusker Fields. Cedar park, Ayer and Long are repped by CAA.

I thought Shia was still in jail?
But anywho, the title sounds cool and it's nice to see Ayer come back into the gritty crime genre. It'll be interesting to see how this will shape out.

I'd be more interested if it weren't for LaBeouf.

LaBeouf is the main reason I'm interested in this. He was great in Ayer's Fury.

Was just saying in another thread that Shia's an underrated actor. Ayer is a WAY bigger question mark for me.

When he does the gritty crime films, he's mostly does well there. It's the movies outside those are the real question mark. I didn't really like Fury that much and have not seen Suicide Squad.

I agree about Shia. Ayer can deliver, Suicide Squad was just a huge misstep.

I dunno, still never been impressed with Ayer as a director. End of Watch was his best so far (that I've seen) but the ending kinda killed it.

Good question. I found out that the budget was $15 million maximum and was nominated for a few Independent Spirit awards.
When I hear small indie, I think of budgets in the $1 million or lower range.
