Japan Famitsu 5.8.09 new Ryu ga Gotoku and more

Plenty of PlayStation goodness this week!:

New Ryu ga Gotoku in development for PS3
  • Not RgG4 but not RgG Kenzan! 2 either
  • Nagoshi believes that fans will be accepting of the title regardless of if Kiriu goes to space or fights zombies
  • Thinking of making it more 3-dimensional than prior titles
  • Title still evolving
  • Thinks fans wouldn't wait 2 years for RGG sequels
  • No voice acting done yet (pre-audition stage) but appears that auditions will be open to the public, atleast for the females....all that's required to audition is a love for the RGG IP.

Trinity Universe (New PS3 RPG)
  • Gust, NIS, Idea Factory
  • August Release
  • Atelier Violate is one of the titles from which the characters originated
  • AAA system (Active Animation Adventure)...I'm guessing it's similar to Tora Dora! Portable's system (google search for it in action)
  • Looks like Etna's in there too (from Disgaea)
  • At least 2 scenarios/story lines: Goddess Story Line & Demon Lord Story Line

Boku no Natsuyasumi 4 (PSP) (My Summer Vacation 4)
Toro to Morimori (PS3) (Toro & Mori Mori)

Soul Calibur (PSP)
-New character

Other:

Katamari Damacy Tribute (PS3) (Katamari Forever in west)
Tekken 6 (PSP)

so good.

man NIS is just everywhere these days .. theyd likely be ruling hte gaming world if they didnt adhere to the whole 2d sprite look in their games that most people cant seem to take to .. but i say bring it on .. anyhting involving NIS in anyway is always going to be good ..

Trinity Universe 3D's looking good in the scans. More detailed and flashy than Atelier Rorona. Dare I say, there's a pastel-colour Kingdom Hearts attraction to it.

Going on sale last February, Ryu Ga Gotoku 3 (Yakuza 3) has shipped over half a million copies in Japan. It's a hit, and SEGA is hard at work on another entry in the franchise.

In an interview in the upcoming Famitsu, the very tanned Toshihiro Nagoshi reveals the development on another Yakuza title. Nagoshi says that it doesn't mean this is Ryu Ga Gotoku 4, but he wants the game to have the essence of Ryu Ga Gotoku. "For example," the designer says, "If main character Kiryu Kazuma went to outer space or fought zombies, I think fans would accept that and say, 'I get it.'"

He wants to have players wonder what is going to happen in the next Ryu Ga Gotoku. "It's not KENZAN 2," Nagoshi assures. "I want to create a new style of game set in contemporary surroundings." Ryu Ga Gotoku KENZAN! was set in Edo-era Kyoto, but the other titles have been set in modern day Japan. All of the ideas that have been saved up until this point will apparently find their way into this new, more immersive title.

Ryu Ga Gotoku 3 and the previous Yakuza titles had elaborate promotional campaigns. Nagoshi is thinking about how to promote the new title, and one concept he has is called "Everyone Can Participate" to fill out the game's cast. Starting on May 8, SEGA will begin accepting applications for 18 years-old-and-up female night club hostess-type characters. SEGA is also planning to accept applications from males; however, age is not important.

"This title will be a PLAYSTATION 3 game," says Nagoshi. All Yakuza titles have been PlayStation exclusives.

I wonder if they're going to try to aim at an international audience with the latest RGG? I'd love to be able to play it again. And localize RGG3 damnit!

Nippon Ichi, Gust, and Idea Factory are getting together for another PlayStation 3 RPG mashup. Introducing Trinity Universe which has characters from Atelier Viorate and Disgaea… in 3D!

For the first time in a game Etna, Flonne, and Prinny aren’t sprites. Outside of the adventure story scenes, the game uses models for dungeons and combat. Trinity Universe’s combat system sounds kind of like Xenogears where each attack consumes AP and skills are assigned to three different buttons. Input a set sequence and you can deal more damage. Time is also an important element in Trinity Universe. Players have to destroy a gravitation field and escape a dungeon before time runs out.

Trinity Universe has two different scenarios. A goddess side with Gust characters and a demon lord side with Nippon Ichi stars. The protagonist in the demon lord storyline is a devil dog named Kanata.

Idea Factory will publish Trinity Universe in Japan this August.

Updated links in the first post, and here's the official Boku no Natsuyasumi 4 webpage.

I'd be really excited if I knew this was getting an English release. Still no word on Yakuza 3 for the US/UK.
