Default Blu-ray player works but doesn't start

I have a three year old Sony mutli-region (UK) which no longer seems to start when I press the remote or use the buttons on the player. It does however always start automatically when I un-plug and re-plug it into the muti-plug adapator.

Very odd, any advice?

And now the player doesn't get past the Blu-ray Logo, you see the slightest flash of the start menu then it goes black.

The player is a Sony BDP-S1500

I have a small Sony Blu Ray player that does the same thing where I have it hoooked up and plugged in where the on button green light shows up then it turns off. Reason why it does that is became i have a very crappy power surge protector that has bunch of stuff plugged in such as my computer and tv.

both the surge protector and the power cord for my blu ray player they're so touchy at times where I have to fiddle with the damn surge protector and my blu ray player's power cord to get my blu ray player to come on properly.

Earlier today I had it all hooked up since I bought Iron Man 2 for Blu ray I bought from Walmart.

I fiddled with taking out my blu ray player's power cord and putting it a bit too hard or something because the surge protector that has my computer's power cord and the tv cord, the surge protector shut off so I had to unplug every power cord and pressed the off switch on the surge protector and then switched it back to On/Reset.

The other times before, it never did that where everything made the surge protector go bonkers.

I guess Ill have to try messing with my blu ray player sometime next month in May when I have the patience and not to swear at the stupid surge protector etc
