Hopefully to put all the extras on the BD instead of just on the DVD.

Why not? They're not Disney.

It's a superior new MPEG-2 encode on a BD25

That would be a tough double-dip call.

It could definitely benefit from a better transfer but the current one isn't exactly bad.

Yeah, but unless it's going through a super-duper director-approved Lowry-grade restoration or something, I won't bother.

This could still be very good news if it signals a broader commitment to proper catalog releases on the part of a newly reorganized MGM.

They're sitting on a lot of cool stuff that deserve really good releases...

Does anyone have anymore information regarding the differences between the single disc and the older, DVD combo pack of these films.

Yeah, the difference is there's no DVD. That's it.

I just pulled the trigger on the 2011 edition Blu-ray for $7.99 from a third-party Amazon dealer.

To Live and Die in L.A. is one of those second-tier movies that I've wanted to own on Blu-ray, but not with any real sense of urgency. It's one of the movies that I look for every time I'm in a used Blu-ray store. The price was right today, though, and I've been enthused about film noir/neo noir lately.

This is a great movie! Love the theme song by Wang Chung

Ouch. I sort of know what you're getting at by second-tier, but this film should be in every drama, action, thriller, cops/robbers lovers collection no matter price.

Can't say enough good things about this film. Not unlike just about every frame before it - the final fifteen or so minutes are masterclass.

I've always loved the soundtrack. The title song alone hits all of the right nostalgia buttons with me.

In all fairness, it's been a couple of decades since I last saw this film, but I've been wanting to revisit it from an adult standpoint. My prediction is that I'll appreciate it even more this time around.

It's probably too late to cancel your order, and the price difference isn't that big, but you can get it at foxconnect.com for $6.50 using the code FLASH. Your total before the 50% discount has to be $25 to get free shipping though, so you'll need another $12.99 movie to go with it if you want it:

I'm all good, but thanks for linking that! I glanced at the Fox sale yesterday, and may still jump on a couple of titles later on. (Wild River, for example)

The 50% off sale is only good till Tomorrow I believe, but who knows, maybe they'll bring it back during Black Friday.

Picked this up months back at Big Lots. I'm assuming it's basically the same disc. It's got what I'd call good PQ/AQ but no extras except a trailer I think. It's too bad because the extras from the DVD were as good as you could hope for. Lucky for me I didn't sell my DVD before figuring out the blu-ray didn't carry over the extras.
