Mickey Rourke to play "Hells Angel" Sonny Barger

I've read Sonny’s book a few times, he is a very interesting guy and the reason the Angels became so big. I understand that Mickey used to ride with the Angels but they look nothing alike and if Sonny don't like your project he's gonna kill it. Anybody remember the HBO show 1% with W. Earl Brown that Sonny got killed because they basically stole his life story? Sonny is really good friends with Kurt Sutter and the cast of Sons of Anarchy and that show employs actual Angels in some of it's leads. I'll be curious as to how much they actually use of Sonny's story, but the fact that they are already talking about the undercover cop angle, how is this any different from every biker movie we've ever seen? This makes me think of Beyond the Law with Charlie Sheen. Shia as an undercover biker cop? The kid can't even grow facial hair yet, and Sonny's story takes place in the 50's - 70's and everybody that rode together had huge beards. I'll try to keep an open mind here, but I just don't know what to think about this, but I’d love to be proven wrong.

According to Deadline, Hell’s Angels has received new heat a decade after Barger sold the rights to his memoir to Fox 2000. Scott has remained interested in the project during all this time, but now Fox has brought in screenwriter Scott Frank (Minority Report) to script a rewrite that would cast the story as a Donnie Brasco-type drama. Rourke would play Barger while a younger actor would play, “a cop who attempts to infiltrate the club to investigate alleged criminal activities.” Scott has apparently met with Shia LaBeouf recently, but no details have been made. Deadline adds that their sources say, “the Barger role is so perfectly tailored for Rourke that it is hard to imagine another actor who could more convincingly play a character who wears the hard miles and brawn of a grizzled biker gang veteran.” To that I can only respond, “Well, duh.”

Well there's that small detail..............

I would have preferred they told the story of when Hunter S. Thompson road b!tch on a piss pad with the Angels in the 60's and they beat the living shit out of him for being stupid. That was my favorite part of Sonny's book, lol. I wonder who will play Chocolate George......

Shia isnt badass looking at all, how could he be a biker. Did you see him try to look tough in Indiana Jones? Bad choice and plus he sucks at acting.

Mickey Rourke is an outstanding actor in my opinion...while I can't speak much about his personal life (since I don't know him), I can say I've never been disappointed with a screen performance of his. I haven't seen all of his movies, but my favorites in which he stars are "Barfly," "Bullet," and "The Wrestler."

I have nothing against Mickey as an actor but some of his film choices as of lately just make me shake my head. Ghengis Khan? I mean come on, thats as bad as John Wayne as Ghengis.

I'd be curious if Mickey could grow a beard too or if he keeps that little ridiculous fu manchu goin.

I hear ya... I will admit, I too am often baffled by the choices that some actors and actresses (not just Rourke) make in their selection of roles.

Have you ever read Hunter's book? I think his take on it was different, I can't remember exactly but wasn't he unsure of why he was beat up?

I never wanted to read his book. I just laughed my ass off in Sonny's bio reading about him getting his ass beat because an Angel and his old lady where arguing and Hunter decided it'd be smart to put his hands on the Angel like he was gonna back him up. He touched the man's colors, which is possibly the dumbest thing you can do to a biker, so he got his ass beat, and he was left behind.
