Hi all, I'm new to the forum, and was wondering if you could help me with a problem please? I've tried searching google, and this forum, but can't find anyone having the same problem. So, here it goes.
TV: Sony, 51" Projection, 1080i max res., NO HDMI input, only DVI and 2 component So, I hooked my PS3 up to the TV a couple months ago, using a HDMI (from PS3) to DVI cable (to the TV). I had to send the audio to the TV via the cable provided with the PS3 (only using the red/white audio inputs). I ran the auto-setup for display settings, and every resolution was checked EXCEPT 1080p, which is understandable since my TV is max 1080i. So, my first experiment was with Resistance Fall of Man. The picture looked AMAZING. However, during the black-and-white movies, in-between the game's chapters, I noticed alot of what I think are called "artifacts." I would get a second of discernable video, then the image would look all pixelated again. It made watching the movies impossible, but I was able to see the game EXCELLENTLY, so that was all that mattered. In the months that followed, I watched SuperMan Returns and Nacho Libre on Blu-ray, and they looked AWESOME. I'm sorry, but I have no idea what resolution is actually being displayed when I watch these 1080p movies on my 1080i (max) TV. Is there somewhere I can find watch resolution is actually being displayed? NOW HERE'S THE PROBLEM: I recently tried to watch Casino Royale and Glory Road (both blu-ray) on the PS3, and I'm getting that same artifact/pixelation problem from both movies. The Casino disc has not a single scratch, and from what I've read, they've produced this title to be the ultimate in blu-ray. It makes watching the movies unbearable. IN ADDITION, I tried to watch Children of Men (regular DVD format - not HD), and it will show six seconds of video fine, then stutter a second, then resume with another six seconds of video. Again, it's unwatchable. I tried several other standard DVDs as a test... same problem. I have the latest, 1.8 update, as well. What could be causing this problem? Why the problem w/ Resistance movies, then no problem with BR Superman/Nacho, NOW problems with Casino/Glory road? And now, standard DVDs stutter? Is there a problem going from HDMI to DVI? Should I buy component cables and hook it up that way instead? My 360 looks great (via component) when I play 1080i games (TigerWoods 07). I'd really appreciate any help any of you experienced/knowledgeable people could provide me. Thank you. Last edited by blumobetta; 06-09-2007 at 06:41 PM. |
