Default Heavy duty glossy outer sleeves for records.

I am running out! Where is a good place to get these? I am not talking about the cheap plastic type, but the type of sleeves Ken Cranes used to sell for laserdiscs that cost about $1.50 each. Good protection and they made album covers look great!

I vote for the Japanese sleeves. They're the best ones I could find that are resealable. I've tried others that are resealable and they're trash (rip easily, not squared, too small).

To be clear: are the Japanese to which you refer (and vote for) the ones to which Crotulus linked on Music Direct's site?

i tried to find my order history on the sites i purchased from. cant find it. but i believe this is what i got. they look the same as the ones from musicdirect. not sure why the gap in price though. i already tried the cheap route when it comes to sleeves and it bit me in the butt. these are the only ones ill use now.

Those sleeves you linked to from Elusivedisc are the ones I was referring to, when I said they were thinner and had a smaller flap. The Elusive Disc sleeves have a 2" flap, but the ones used by Impex & Cisco have a 4" flap and are much thicker. It is the latter I'm after. I'm gonna try some from Music Direct to see if they're the ones...

From looking at the pictures it seems that both websites are selling the same sleeves. I would give MusicDirect a call before ordering. MusicDirect did have some heavier spec sleeves on the website though. I thought I saw some 4 mil and even 6 mil sleeves. If the Japanese sleeves are like the ElusiveDisc ones then they're specified to be 2 mil on the ElusiveDisc website.

I gave the link for the Japanese sleeves because they seemed to fit what Dean L was looking for. The heavier gauge sleeves seem to have a matte finish based on the pictures. Dean L seemed to want a protective crystal clear type sleeve more so than just being heavy duty. I'm just speculating based one his one post but hopefully he will chime back in with exactly what he wants.

Hi Rich!

When you get them, could you post a pic with an LP inside, so we can see how they look. I'm a bit concerned with how they will look when you view the spine. If there is a seam on the spine side I may not be able to identify the LP once on my rack.

That was my thinking as well. The Japanese sleeves I bought are not really noticeable in an LP frame. IMO they are a good balance of protection and aesthetics .

Will do! If there's a difference, I'll post pics of the ElusiveDisc sleeves too, for comparison. If you have a copy of the Cisco reissue of The Hunter by Jennifer Warnes, you already have a sample of the outer sleeve I'm after.

I placed my sleeve order (plus some other goodies--my ancient digital stylus force gauge also recently died) last night, so hopefully they'll be here soon...

I don't have The Hunter, but I have Steely Dan Aja and Dexter Gordon's One Flight Up. They have seams running along the spine, but I can easily read the text....

OK, if your Aja is from Cisco, then you have an example of the sleeve I want (I also have Cisco's version of that album)! IMHO, these sleeves are ideal: generously sized so that a double album with comfortable fit, thick plastic for better protection, and a big flap that stays shut easily.

I'll know soon 'cause my order is due to arrive on Friday...

Hi Rich,

I don't have anything released by Cisco or Impex but I do have a release by Simply Vinyl that has a cover like you are looking for.

This Morissey reissue came in a thick heavy duty sleeve with a large flap. Are the ones you're describing like this?

If so I found they are available from Simply Vinyl for the low price of 22.99 British Pounds per 10 plus whatever shipping may be (http://www.simplyvinyl.com/a-to-z/le...er-sleeve.html)

Unfortunately I can't find any other suppliers of these types of sleeves. The website for Impex Records seems to be down. They may be worth contacting to get sleeves from if you can find their contact info.

My order from Music Direct just arrived. Unfortunately, their resealable sleeves are the same crappy ones (i.e., small flap, very thin plastic) that are also sold by Elusive Disc. :-(

I might try to contact Impex to see what brand of outer sleeve they actually use...

OK, I did contact Impex to see what brand of sleeves they use. It turns out that the sleeves Impex use are custom made to spec for them. :-(
