Firestarter - Plan B release - Blu-ray Forum

There doesn't seem to be a thread for the Plan B UK release of Firestarter so I'm starting one here. Just received this special edition and it is packed with some great extras. PQ is excellent. Really sharp and detailed. A nice depth to the picture and upscaled to 4k, it looks amazing. There's also a nicely resolved fine amount of grain that gives it a lovely textured filmic look. Really pleased with this release. It's probably the same as the US release but I didn't import that. Best this film has ever looked. On the audio front you only get the original mono track which does make it sound genuinely 80s. That's good for purists but I think the soundtrack could do with an upgrade personally. Other than that it's terrific. A must own for fans of this movie IMO.

Audio for this got a 5.0 in the review while the US SF release got a 3.0. Are they from different sources?

I don't know tbh. I don't own the US release so I can't say if there are any differences. I only know the soundtrack on this release is solid but limited due to being mono only. I'm not a sound purist though. Perhaps one of the reviewers was.

Isn't the SF audio compressed? The Plan B mono track is uncompressed LPCM.

Now I have numerous tunes by the Prodigy in my head. I’ve never seen this though, sounds good, I might give it a try.

Just having a look at the reviews, the reviewer says about the Shout that they could have done an uncompressed stereo mix as another option. The reviewer doesn't seem that impressed with the original mono mix. So not sure if the mono track is compressed on the SF or not.

No - they're made from the exact same master. Plan B licensed the new restored master from Shout Factory.

One reviewer appreciates original Mono for what it is and is happy if it sounds clear and undistorted, and the other would like to have had a surround remix and finds mono to be just not good enough for an action-oriented movie. The result are two very different votings on one and the same soundtrack.

It's the same US disc that exists, Universal are reissuing a number of titles minus digital copies.

Anybody knows if this still comes with booklet,slipcase etc,or has it been replaced by a regular edition?I want to buy from Amazon...

I was planning to place an order on Amazon UK for this and am wondering the same. I assume it still comes with the slipcase/booklet? It's pretty cheap atm.

I don’t think it’s been re-issued so this should still be the original release with the slip, booklet etc.
