Default Is it worth to buy and upconversion dvd

Hi, I have a sony XBR4 tv and a Yamaha RXV1800 receiver, but I have a regular dvd, I want to know if is worth it to buy a dvd capable of upscaling or if is enough with the upscaling that my receiver does.

If you HAVE to go with an upconvert player, get Sony's $70 one, excellent model that should be well worth your money.

Of course they're worth it! Just find a good brand for 100$ or less... otherwise you might as well buy a standalone Bluray player if you pay much more than 100$.

Why don't you want to use your PS3 for DVD's? They'll look fine upconverted through your PS3, not to mention your tv and receiver can upscale as well. No need to spend another $100 on something that's gonna just sit there. That's like 5 blurays.

Target stores are clearing out Sony BDP-S350 players for $150 right now. Just a couple months ago, they were $299 everywhere. It's a quality unit that does a decent job of upconverting, and an excellent job as a BD player.

You may just want to get a standalone BD player instead of an upconverting DVD player based on the Target deal.

Have to agree with others that your PS3 will do a nice job of upconverting.

I want a stand-alone myself so I can rest my PS3 from time to time. I do over-use it a bit, especially since I have over 200 blu-rays now, I worry about wearing out my 1 year old PS3.

Your TV and Reciever are both pretty nice. Either of them should have decent upscaling. Compare the two and see which you like better.

I actually like my TV's upscaling better than the PS3 for both DVDs and PS2 games. An player for upscaling DVDs is only NEEDED if you don't already have something that does a decent job. Like if you had a cheap TV or a no frills reciever.

Purchase the Sony BD360 its only $250 and you will have everything you need and you don't have to buy an upconversion dvd. It will do your upconversion and play blu-rays and cds. It 3 for the price of one. You don't have to purchase a PS3 if you aren't a gamers. It a great stand alone player.

Woah are you serious $150 for the BDP S350? Or was that a type-o?

I just want to give my ps3 a rest from time to time, because is on most of the time. But I´m not sure if the upscaling of the receiver and tv is enough.

I understand the whole giving the PS3 a rest thing, but upconverting is half snake oil in my opinion. Your old DVD's are only gonna look so good no matter what you're using and i think your tv will do a fine job anyways. I think by the time you wear out your PS3, you'll be able to buy a new one for $200 or the PS4 will be out already. I dunno, if i were you, i'd either hold off on buying anything or get a really good standalone for all your movies (dvd's and BD's), then just use the Ps3 for games. I have a sony 350 in my bedroom and once you get used to the PS3's fast load times, it's kinda hard to go back. The 350 is solid, but it's kinda finicky and a pain in the ass sometimes.

Stay with your PS3 or buy the Sony S350 which is an excellent BD player. I know that soon, very soon, I am going to pick up a PS3 because this has everything you could want in a game consol, BD player and best of all internet fun!
