I'm Aware and even own some of them but is there a list somewhere other than: https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/movie...enre=animation which to me doesn't seem up to date. Including OAV's or Movies if they are the only thing in a series such as: Akira. I'm just wondering which Blu's i can buy where i dont necessarily need a background of a past movie or season of episodes.
I Know of: ~Akira ~Appleseed: Ex Machina ~Freedom ~Paprika ~Sky Crawlers ~Samurai 7 ~Shigurui ~Vexille These are just a few i pulled off the above blu-ray.com list of animation movies. I would greatly appreciate any input from users all over. Like i said im just looking for new things to watch where i dont need a past Movie or Season of episodes to understand what is happening. ~Chris |

Wings of Honneamise: Royal Space Force A bit pricey, but worth it. The Blu-ray also comes with a DVD. Jin-Roh Ditto. Not as essential as WoH, but it's still a very good film. Ghost in the Shell and Innocence: Ghost in the Shell 2 The first film has OK, but not great, PQ. The second looks better but the story's not quite as good. Gunbuster vs. Diebuster movie Two OVA series condensed into 2 movies. It's not required that you see the OVAs first, but it might help. Bubblegum Crisis OVA No English, and expensive, but it's a great series with a pristine transfer. Patlabor the Movie 1 & 2 Good movies. I don't own these myself but they reportedly look very solid on Blu-ray. Of these, Wings of Honneamise, Jin-Roh, Ghost in the Shell 2, and Gunbuster vs. Diebuster have been released in the U.S... You'd have to import the others. |

If you don't mind importing, you can also get some other full series or OAV's from Japan, such as:
- Macross Frontier - Code Gears R2 - Keion - Gundam 00 - uchuu o kakeru shoujo - Soukou Kihei Votoms - Planetes - Bounen Zamdo - Shin Mazinger Z - Fate/Stay Night - Tales of the Abyss In fact, have a look at Amazon Japan: lot's of anime on Blu to find and if you like, you can order directly from there: http://www.amazon.co.jp/%E3%82%A2%E3...rd_i=403507011 Some are also up for preorder, such as Yuyu Hakusho (TV series), etc. For fans of mecha series, Shin Mazinger Z is shaping up to be awesome. The first box set is 3 BD50's for the price of 18.000 Yen: Quote:

"The Sky Crawlers" comes out on May 26th (US) and "Sword of the Stranger" is also coming out soon from Bandai. As with "Final Fantasy: Advent Children".

I see you bought "Shigurui: Death Frenzy"... talk about crazy and dark. As for imports...I probably will start getting the Macross F import releases. With this "who owns the Macross" license debate, not sure if we will ever see that series stateside. I'm still awaiting until after Anime Expo, because I know Bandai will have an exciting announcement and hoping it's the Gundam films on Blu or something Gundam related. Also curious about "K-ON!". Since I observe the Oricon Charts weekly, I've never seen an anime theme stay so strongly on the top 10 single charts for so long and the OP and ED theme have stayed strong in the top 10 for weeks. what site do you recommend using to order imports? i looked at the stickied thread and found Blu-Asia for Appleseed and Naked Weapon, but they dont have a decent anime collection. I would love to use amazon.jp but cant find the button to put it all in english =/ what other sites do you guys use to order imports..
i really want Death Note and Jin-Roh about Gunbuster vs Diebuster, do i need a background in the series at all to watch and enjoy the movie, or can i just pick it up and watch it with no existing background in the episodes of the Gunbuster Series |

For Jin-Roh, that was released in the US and Bandai pretty much has the Japanese and US version on that Blu-ray, so no problem on that. Also, you get the huge storyboard book. As for "Gunbuster" and "Diebuster", these are films that is a condensed version of the OAV series, so they eliminated some of the character driven/emotional storylines and what drove the character to go from weak to strong. You can still watch the films and enjoy it but I highly recommend watching the OAV series because the parts that are cut out are (for me) important. I look at the "Gunbuster vs. Diebuster" releases as the icing on the cake for those who previously own the OAV releases. The benefit for the fan of the 1988 original is that the most of the original cast came into re-record the audio, so they can have a better soundtrack. For fans of the OAV series, it was great to see the special features of all talent promoting the film. But "Gunbuster" is an OAV series worth watching (the original is just a classic that anime fans of mecha should own) and if you can find it on DVD for cheap, go for it, "Diebuster" is not as great in storyline but for mecha, it was very good and how it ties into the original. I enjoyed it. But Jin-roh and Gunbuster vs. Diebuster or the Gunbuster - Top o Nerae! you can find that on amazon or domestic anime online retailers. As for "Death Note", well not sure if VIZ will release the anime series on Blu-ray in the near future but I can say that both box sets on DVD are excellent and the second box set released features an extra bonus disc with many (not sure if all) of the Japanese special features. If you like mecha anime, I can wholeheartedly recommend the Macross F (Frontier) Blu-rays. Also, the Shin Mazinger Z anime series which only recently debuted on TV is also one to keep our eyes on, as it will also be released on Blu-ray and seems to go back to the roots of the series, with updated animation ![]() |

no problem =P ive always watched anime like Monster, One Piece, Dragon Ball back when i was little, Elfen Lied, Samurai 7 (have over 700 gig on my computer) but i wanted some on bluray so i knew the background of most of the blu-rays i bought, Robotech was completely a blind buy with 0 background knowledge.. Amazon lumped it in to the Anime/Animation category and under 18 bucks i had to throw it in the cart haha
