Default ps3 defaulting to dolby digital instead of pcm

is there a setting or something to get the ps3 to default to pcm instead of dolby digital ? it seems to default to dd instead of pcm on all movies.

You have might have the settings on bitstream.. try changing that under the audio section.

no, its set to linear pcm. do you, or anyone else, have a ps3, and it defaults to pcm and not dolby digital. i can change it on the discs menu and it works fine, but it would be a lot nicer if it would automatically do it. thanks for the reply !

Hhmm, I have both of my ps3's connected through hdmi and it picks up pcm. However I do have to change it on the audio settings of the movie. Is this what you are refering to?

ya, when i insert a disc, and the movie starts, i go into the discs audio menu and the dolby digital track is playing, and i have to manually change it to the pcm one. i was hoping there was a way to make it start with the pcm track automatically. no ?

I think that's the way the disc is set up and not the player. It will always default to DD.

A shortcut is to hit the audio button on the bluetooth remote when the movie starts playing.

My PS3 does the same. Anyone with non PS3 with same experience?

I'm pretty sure it's how the movies are setup. If that's right then there's nothing much that we can do to change that.

it has to do with the movie itself, not your sound settings.

I have the Philips BDP9000 player and it does the same thing. I believe that all Blu-Rays have the DD5.1 track as their default thereby requiring a manual changing of the audio channels.

I would imagine the fact that it defaults to DD is to keep the morons from thinking their stuff is broken if their setup doesn't support PCM. Have to cater to the masses.

It's the discs people. They have it set to Dolby Digital because the majority of people don't take advantage of PCM (or can't). Remember back in the day when tons of people returned the superbit version of Fifth Element because it defaulted to DTS? Well they don't want people doing the same thing...
