Default Polk, most popular on the forums?

Is it just me or is Polk the most popular brand of speakers on these forums? Looking through pics of people's systems on here I find that Polk has a big-time showing on here. Anyone else find this? Also why do you guys think this is?

polks, specifically the monitor series, are a good starting point for many and provide a great experience for their low price point. same with the onkyo 605/606/607 - great functionality for the low price point.

Cheapest, therefore the most popular. The largest part of the population can afford them right away, rather than waiting and saving for something more.

Great Bang for the Buck while being extremely easy to find.
Good variety of speaker types, allowing for basic systems of a couple of hundred dollars to more complex,hi-end speaker systems costing several thousand.
I think marketing has put them ahead in sells and consumer awareness...

I agree with you talstarone.

It's value and performance. You may consider them the cheapest entry level speakers, but they perform more than admirably in my opinion and the price point is very good, especially with sites such as NewEgg providing them at such a good price.

But another reason you see a lot of them here is becuase of the sheer # of Polk fans on this site. As time goes by, and more new members ask what speakers to get, the ever growing Polk fans will provide the same response, and that is to get Polks. It is simply the most common advice based on the # of Polk fans here. So, I think this has a lot to do with it as well.

It's all about product availability and price to performance ratio. Its the same reason that Klipsch and Onkyo have such a huge share of ownership amongst our members.

polk members are multiplying by the day!!!

polk does offer a good 'entry level speaker'.
unless im upgrading to 2500 or more fronts, theres no need to upgrade a polk.....its a waste of money.

it is truely the best bang for your buck until you start going into the higher end speaker line, which MOST of us will never venture into

Well, my fronts didn't cost $2500. But, I would consider it a substantial upgrade.

Definitely not a waste of money. Don't knock it until you heard it.

Basic marketing, price+brand awareness+brand confidence=market saturation.

klipsch and polk have this down, given that most individuals listen to speakers only at Best Buy they will tend to buy what BB is pushing the most, and these are the 2 brands most often pushed. I am not saying that they are not good speakers, but IMO, there are much better ones too.

Looking just at price, the once infrequent Energy speaker brand on this forum, has been getting more and more owners because of prices at vanns.com and audioadvisor.com. Couple that with the more active owners thread and you have a rise in awareness and affordability and now a higher % of owners.

Lets take the Acoustic Audio sub thread. Before BD, no one knew of them on here, but once about 5 of us began owning them and word spread then people saw the affordability of them and now it is the 2nd most popular subwoofer thread behind the eD thread. Same can be said about the Premier Acoustics Sub thread, before Aramis, who knew about this sub?? Given its affordability and gaining awareness it is now becoming a popular sub too.

I agree, I spent $250 for my Energys on sales for the Pair, and Yes I have heard the Monitor 50/60s and TSi300s and I would say that my speakers out perform them considerably. And If it was gonna cost me the $600 for the pair which they are MSRPd then I would have still considered it a better purchase. There are a ton of speakers out there that can be had for sub $1000 that are better then the polks, you don't need to spend $2500 before you see substantial improvement.

As mentioned Polks are readily available at the big box stores but if you go to an HT store or an audio place you won't find many if any Polks. That's not to say that these stores carry only expensive speakers. If you do a little digging you can feed much better speakers than Polk at similar prices. Entry level paradigms or PSB's for example.

When I got my set up, I got it at a good price. I knew they weren't "audiophile" speakers, but was satisfied with how they perform. I was actually surprised how well the PSW10 sub sounded for only having a 50W amp. Maybe someday I will upgrade to something else, but for now I am content with my Polk speakers.

I think because people are lazy and don't want to go audition speakers and when they see a good deal online they buy them. Also for first time buyers they get them from forms like these with people pushing the brand of speakers they use on others, not a bad speaker but i think there is better out there for the a bit more money. IMO i would never buy speakers that are sold at big box stores, they are cheaply manufactured to keep the price low.
