I've been looking through the entire forum and haven't found an answer to this question: When you are holding a Blu-ray and it's packaging in your hand what tells you that it is a BD-50 or a BD-25? I know that all the reviews on this site include that information, but I can't figure out how the reviewer knows.
Thanks. |

You can tell if you put it into a BD-ROM drive.
Most packaging does not tell you, just like most DVDs don't come out and say whether they are 4.7 GB (single layered) or 8.5 GB (dual layered). The average 90 minute movie can fit easily on a 25 GB blu-ray, even with a great transfer, audio options, and some extra features. So don't go making assumptions that just because a blu-ray is on a 25 GB disc, that there is anything necessarily wrong with it. Why waste all that empty space on a 50 GB disc if it's not going to be used? This site will tell you, as well: http://www.blu-raystats.com/ Last edited by benricci; 06-26-2009 at 03:51 PM. |

I find it's easier to flip the disc over and examine the rings surrounding the center BD hole. If one barcode is wrapped around the center, it's a BD-25 disc. If two individual barcodes are wrapped around the center, it's a BD-50 disc.
It's a quick trick that doesn't require any software or extra effort ![]() |
