Stargate: Atlantis "Fan's Choice" on Blu!

In an unprecedented move, MGM has invited Atlantis fans to vote which episodes will be released on Blu-ray.

“Starting this Friday, right after the series finale of Stargate Atlantis — and only until January 31st — go to Stargatehub.com and vote for your favorite Stargate Atlantis episodes to be chosen for a Fan’s Choice Blu-ray disc,” Stargatehub said in a press release.

In addition to selecting the episodes, fans will be given the opportunity to create the box art for the disc.

The number of episodes to be included on the disc, and the release date, is not currently known.

The results of the poll will be ready for viewing the week of February 9, the same time the box art contest will begin. Visit Stargatehub.com to vote your favorite Atlantis episodes into Blu-ray!

Hopefully this is their way of testing the waters to see if a full Blu-ray release would sell.

I have always supported Stargate SG-1 and Atlantis (and soon Universe and Worlds) and I will continue to with this release. I already voted. Loved the final episode last night. Perfect ending. I am still hoping they will release Season 5 on Blu as well as DVD. I can see where they wouldn't think it is profitable yet to release the seasons on bluray. This greatest hits release is definately a chance to test the waters with blu.

Then you're not helping yourself get full seasons

MGM did the same thing with SG-1, releasing the first 4 episodes, and then 9 months later following with the first season box once they knew it would sell

I will wait until they release the box sets, I got 1-4 seasons on dvd & also get SciFi-HD. I would say Summer or Fall that we will see at lease one of the seasons on Blu.

I was surprised how fast they release The Ark of Truth on BD

Episode collections are a very BAD way to test the waters for how well a release will sell. I for one won't buy anything but a season set, and with the series drawn to a close I'll actually wait for a complete series.

There are some (like me) who have been thinking HD/Blu-Ray since S1 was released on DVD, so we've never bought a DVD season. While it might not be hugely significant, I'm sure this softened sales some.

I'll take a best of blu-ray but hopefully they release all the seasons on blu-ray. It was a little disappointing to see them advertising this season hitting DVD this summer but made no mention of it coming to blu-ray.

I know I am going to purchase this very unwillingly. I will do my part to help Atlantis and hopefully SG-1 be released on Blu-ray by purchasing this test release. I just hate having to do it knowing that if it works I will just be throwing it away when I get the season boxsets.

I want the full seasons in blu too. Hopefully this year, cause after SciFi decided with MGM to mutually agree to cancel it I dont plan on watching repeats from their network. SciFi really screwed this one up.

Although I'm a Stargate fan, I'll pass on this. The only thing I'm interested in is buying full season box sets. Hopefully, they'll release them after this 'best of' collection.

But it's just seems like a stupid way to test the waters. I thought the same thing way back when Warner was testing the waters for TV on DVD with the "best of" releases for Friends.

I want full seasons. I don't want to waste my money on a random collection of episodes and then have them turn around and start releasing full season sets. If they want to test the waters, put the final season on Blu-Ray and judge by those sales. I can't see myself being the only one who will hold out for the season sets, so what do the sales of this best of prove?
