Default Kabadayi?

Anyone have any information on a turkish title called Kabadayi? I saw that a BD-rip of it has gone online in the usual places and was wondering about the release. From the cover art that I saw it seems to be an actual Turkish release rather than one from another country.

Yes sir it is a Turkish release.

"Kabadayi" 1080p VC-1 region free, the BD authored probably in Russia.

Bad part: start of the disc has company logos etc. on 567i a la some other european discs. I hate it.

"Kanal D Home Video" owns rights to some of these turkish movies. Alongside Kabadayi they also released;

"Beyaz Melek"
"Pars:Kiraz Operasyonu" on BD as well.

You can find Nuri Bilge Ceylan's ''3 Monkeys'' on BD too.

hope this helps.

Merhaba

Do you own this disc? If yes, I would like to know if it is sourced from an HD master or simply an SD print upconverted to 1080. (I assume no Climates and Uzak yet).

www.tulumba.com Do not stock it yet!

And please report here if anything by Yılmaz Güney appears in Istanbul

Merhaba Pro-B,

Wish I was in Turkey now, I'd get a copy & send it for you to review. Gonna be in States for a while (education).

I've seen Kabadayi, Beyaz Melek and Pars on BD; all released from "Kanal D Home Video", VC-1, like I said probably authored in Russia. I can not guarantee if they are sourced from HD masters or upscales from standard betacams but they did look good to me. Unfortunately when they came out I was just leaving the country.

"3 Monkeys" BD is an other situation, though. It was the first (turkish) BD on the market & it was released by "Imaj", a studio which to day only released this BD. Doesn't always mean it'd end up being a bad product, but I haven't tested it as well. It has english/french/german subs (it states on the cover).

No words from Uzak & Climates Dr, and I'll surely let you know if anything by Guney appears here (there?), in next 10 years....

3 Monkeys was shot in HD,it's the best Turkish bluray out there. The others weren't (like Kabadayi or Beyaz Melek) shot in HD and they look like they're upscaled from Dvds. Kanal D Home Video didn't do their job well with those blurays, hopefully they will learn.

Really, did they look that awful? Your comment makes me wish I was in Turkey to check the discs thoroughly.

Shame on Kanal D if they did a bad job on all those discs. They're owned by biggest Turkish media mogul, own a big film library, Lionsgate, Universal's distribution rights etc.

Hope they'll learn next time.

Comparing to 3 Monkeys they look like crap. Especially Beyaz Melek, i was expecting so much from that movie but the transfer was pretty mediocre, it wasn't sharp and colorful i thought it would be.

Good evening,

Very well then. I would be interested in a copy of 3 Monkeys. New Wave Films in the UK (the Artificial Eye offshoot) own the rights for it but they have not announced plans to enter the Blu-ray market. So, if you or anyone else spots a copy of it, please let me know.

And good luck with your studies

Pro-B
