I was wondering if anybody knows of any good and reliable websites to order blu-rays from Mexico? I want to get Need for Speed 3D which WDSHE has for whatever reason decided to not release in USA in 3D and I would prefer to not have to pay some guy in Cali on eBay $48 for a copy. I was thinking about calling WDSHE to see about getting the 3D disc from them, since clearly they have it, with other countries, including fellow Region A Mexico seeing a release. But who knows how that call will go!
Thanks! |

It might work out cheaper to get it from Australia. It should be region free from Disney (JB Hi-Fi lists it as such too)

Seems to be really cheap in Mexico, assuming those are pesos, right?

429 Pesos or about $33 US before shipping. $18 US in shipping on top of that. UK release is around $27 after shipping. This would be the cheapest option for 3D right now especially since the UK includes the 2D disc with it. The Australian version just says Blu-ray 3D. However, the UK release of Need for Speed is not released by Disney. Its released by Entertainment One. The back of the slipcover shows only Region B - and its yet to be confirmed by anyone if it is locked or unlocked. Hence why I was looking into a copy from Mexico since it for sure would be Disney and Region A.

Shoot. I didn't realize that... Entertainment One almost always region locks their releases.
I just checked... the Hong Kong release comes out to around $35.90 which is still cheaper than the Mexican release. And yes, HK is region A so it'll work fine on a US and Canadian machine. The caveat is since its from HK, its a BD3D disc only so no extras or 2D option. Its still a "Dreamworks/Disney" release handled by IVL. If you want the 3D and 2D pack then Mexico is the option right now. |

Yeah the UK one will likely be locked, which is why I suggested the Aus. release. It comes to about $37 US shipped I believe. The HK looks to be a similarly priced option, so that's good too.

Get the Taiwan Region A Release from JSDVD. All Deltamac releases only have a 3D/2D BD combo option for films released in 3D, and Need for Speed is no exception. Note that this release is distributed by Deltamac for Disney/DreamWorks.
With shipping, it should come to under $42 USD. http://dvd.jsdvd.com/product_info.ph...ducts_id=31255 |

So I called WDSHE - that was fun. The girl was nice but even after putting me on hold to find out more as to whether or not what I was wanting to order today was available (this after she took my address in case we could place the order - as if she didn't already know the answer?). She then came back to tell me that the film is not available in the USA or Canada in 3D so they can't sell me one, even just the disc. Such crap. I even explained to her about all the countries that have it available and so I know they have the discs since several are Region A. I even brought up Maleficent and Frozen. Of course all she gave me was she didn't know, yada, yada, yada. She said she would forward me comments and requests for availability on to Marketing. I asked for contact information there but she said she couldn't give me that. She couldn't tell me why 3D releases have been skipped for the USA - didn't know, again, Marketing department. Part of me wants to call back and try to get transferred to a manager/supervisor of some kind right off the bat. Say sorry kid, I know you can't/won't have the answer I am looking for - I want to speak to someone higher up.
I had looked at getting them next month through Sanborns since their prices, at least for Frozen, are cheaper - or has anyone heard anything more concrete on the rumored October Frozen 3D release? |

You called Walt Disney Home Entertainment US trying to obtain a 3D disc for a release that does not exist in the US? Why are you upset? Just because its a "Region A" disc does not mean it originates from the US. Mexican Blu-rays are produced and manufactured in Mexico. Hong Kong Blu-rays are produced and manufactured in Hong Kong. Now, there are cases where a disc is imported from another country, a majority of Thai Blu-rays are the Hong Kong releases with either censorboard stickers on the outside of the HK shrinkwrap or repackaged with Thai art & censorboard stickers. Happy Home Entertainment/AVS are the only Thai distributors who make Thai Blu-rays and these are produced & manufactured in Thailand. However, since we in the US, don't have a 3D releases of Need for Speed or Frozen then there is no physical way for WDSHE US to sell you one. They also can't sell you an import because they do not have access to that stock. But. But. But aren't Warner discs the same worldwide? Yes and no. The same master files are shared worldwide but again the actual production & manufacturing happens closer to the releasing country. Sorry you're upset that you can't get a 3D release but blame poor marketing, promotions, and just flat out archaic buying patterns. A huge majority of buyers won't touch a BD3D, BD2D, DVD, DC combo pack because all their eyes see is BD3D. And "I don't have 3D so I dont' want to buy it." Thus. the seperate BD2D SKU of which this SKU gets the heavier discount more frequently. Disney's "marketing research" shows BD3D doesn't sell so fewer promotions and marketing leading to the eventual abandonment of the format option. |
