Default Question about Amazon Pre-order Price Guarantee

Ok, this may be stupid, but I need to know, cause I have a method of pre-ordering, and I'm wondering if it's a bad method, and actually losing me money, but to get to the bottom of it, I must ask this question. Why you pre order something, do you get the Pre-order Price Guarantee from when it was introduced to the site, or only since when you place the order?

Like for example, let's say a movie up for pre-order was made available on August 26, 2014. but the release date is for January 12, 2015, if I ordered let's say on January 5th, and they has been a price drop on October, would I get October's price drop, or not?

Cause, I like to pre-order a week before I make a purchase (except for limited editions), because I need to figure out, how much I can spend and not run out of funds. So am I doing it ok, so should I just pre-order everything I want the second it goes live?

From the day the you place the order, so it is best to place the order immediately. You won't be charged until the item ships, and you can cancel anytime if the price is not where you want it to be.

Yup. That's why those of us who do use Amazon generally pre-order as soon as it's available, or at least at the first price drop. It's because we will get the best price it hits between then and release day, and don't have to chase around.

I also generally will pre-order something as soon as the link appears, just to save myself having to remember. Then about once a week I go in to my Amazon account (or am there anyway, LOL) and I check all "open orders". Then I can see what I have preordered coming up, see what the price is, if I want to keep it, or move it to a wishlist. I'm at Amazon enough anyway so it's not a chore to check and it keeps a little "calendar" of releases for me. Since there is no prepayment or penalty for cancelling up until it ships, it works just perfectly for my needs.
