Panasonic DMP-BD50 Blu-ray Player (Region A)
Panasonic DMP-BD50 Blu-ray Player (Region B)

Anyone know when the next generation Blu Ray from Panasonic will be available in stores?

By the first of June, and will include "within the Player" the capability to decode all the advanced high bit audio codecs, then passing that through via HDMI to your Receiver or Pre/Amp Processor for amplifying, then onto your speakers. I'm uncertain if it will be Profile 2.0 or not. [Jim]

im holding out for this one to make the upgrade, this will have an ethernet port so it will be upgradable to 2.0 if it isnt out of the box, correct?

Good luck with that...

The only way I can see this happening is if you hire someone to steal one and you pay them $299 for the job.

I tried contacting Panasonic to get any info on the release date but they replied to check soon in March.

I sware i keep checking Panasonic Blu-ray global site everyday hoping to see any new information.

I'm diying for this player. Does anyone think i should pick up the DMP-BD30k instead? I dont need internal decoding but i think the network feature is great.

Any suggetions ?

It will be be profile 2.0. Cnet actually called the ethernet port the "BD-Live port."

It will be a fully-featured BD player.

I want this player, but I'm going to wait till prices come down. It sucks that blu players have actually gone up in price since Toshiba quite the HD race looks like companies want to recoup some money, so I'll wait till the fall and just use my PS3.

Well...after hearing iRobot in DTS-MA at my buddy's...I MUST HAVE DTS-MA! It was mind blowing how great it sounded. I just upgraded my receiver to the onkyo 605, but I'm using my ps3 as the bluray player....and god bless it's heart it does a great job...but no DTS-MA I was looking into the Panny BD30...but the lack of ethernet port and it being profile 1.1...well I'd rather wait for the bd50. In my situation, should I just stick with the BD30? Or do you guys think I should wait? I"m upgrading my system one by one...receiver first...next blu-ray player...and speakers after that! As an electronics enthusiast...I typically like to have the best I can...but if the BD30 is going to do everything I need...should I even bother with the BD50?

A guy over at AVS, Robert from Value Electronics for those who know him, posted that his Panasonic contact just told him that the BD50 wouldn't be out until June. Looks like I'll be sticking with my BD30...

Since your receiver can decode DTS-MA you don't need the player to do the decoding. Set your PS3 to output to bitstream and have the receiver decode it.
