Default Deep Discount DVD responsible for Harry Potter leak

The torrented Harry Potter came as the result of their usually wonderful early DVD shipping policy

“Scholastic has recently learned that some individuals have received copies of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows through the mail, beginning on Tuesday, July 17th, as a result of a breach of the on-sale agreement by the distributor, Levy Home Entertainment, and shipments made by DeepDiscount.com, a customer of that distributor. We are taking immediate legal action against DeepDiscount.com and Levy Home Entertainment.”

Hope that doesn't kill our 20% off sale

Well, I'm not a fan of that site, anyway. They purposefully make it nearly impossible to cancel an order after placing it. If you make a mistake in your order, it goes into processing, and there is no way on their site to delete or modify the order. Then, when you call them, they say, "We're sorry -- it's in processing, and you have to wait and call us back when it has been processed."

Then you have this little window of time between when it decides it's been processed and when it's been shipped that you can actually cancel it. You have to be lucky and near a computer to catch it. If you miss it -- tough luck. Send it back at your own expense and wait gosh knows how long for your credit (I read a few people post on other sites that they waited months).

The website makes it look like you can modify your order, but you actually can't. It just loops and loops back and forth between two or three different menus that allow you to do nothing.

Personally, I'm glad that shady place will get nailed.

That's cause they use outside warehouses, and the order goes right through their system to those warehouses.

I hate deep didcount because they aren't really a discount. they cost more than best buy most of the time. all that aside......what's the ending? I haven't heard. I don't read the books so I don't care about waiting.

You can't break street dates, folks, especially on something this big and high profile.

Their day 1 prices maybe, but their everyday prices are signifigantly lower. Factor in the free shipping and the twice a year 20% off sale

Damnit, I'm counting on that for the Harry Potter Blus

So does Amazon, and you can cancel with them up until shipment. Matter of fact, that's the allure of being an e-tailer... you drop ship everything to cut down on costs. The only reason for any online store to stock something is if they also have a B&M presence. Otherwise, you can run a site like DeepDiscount out of your spare bedroom--and they probably do!

I'm not a big fan of DeepDiscount.com, tho. I purchased some X360 games from them and received an e-mail two days later telling me that their stock was depleted and they could not ship. I asked to cancel my order and was told that it could not be canceled... it's merely "in limbo". If they get stock on the games, they'll ship them. If not, my order will sit there forever. I argued with the guy that they can't simply hold my credit card hostage on the chance they MIGHT get stock--I know my rights as a consumer. Eventually he backed down and my order was canceled. I'll never buy from them again.

I once ordered some DVDs from Deep Discount DVD... speedy delivery, I was happy with what I got. Then they got bought out by a company and went USA-only.

They must have some pretty dumb folks working at DeepDiscount.com since they shipped the books early. I mean, hello.. it's frickin' Harry Potter. You do what they tell you to do or you'll pay for it.

I have had nothing but perfect service from Deep Discount. I've been dealing with them for years. On preorders, I usually get the title at least a week before the street date - and that's with the free shipping option.

Last month I bought a ton of Blu-ray titles from them during their additional 20% off week, which made the titles effectively 50% off, again with free shipping!

No complaints from me!

I think this company are going to lose big.

It is just isn't cricket to break a street date on such a huge release just to get a make a quick buck before your rivals.
