Default Panasonic G-15 THX HDTV Thread

Woooh. I just started reading a huge post over at AVS about THX problems on G-10, V-10 and I assume G-15's. Something about color problems (yellow and green I think) Can anyone shed some easy to understand light on this for me? Such as, is it a real problem? Can it be fixed with a firmware update? How do I check which firmware version I have? How can I check if I have a newer "fixed" set? If a firmware update is no good what are my options?

Thanks. I've been using the THX mode almost exclusively and while I haven't noticed any problems the idea that there is a real issue out there has me a bit anxious.

They are referring to a yellowish or greenish push on the tv. What this means is that when you look at the picture it may seem like there is a yellowish tint. This is not a defect in the TV.

In fact out of the box 99.99999% of all tvs have an issue with pushing a particular color. This can be corrected with a proper calibration. Your TV is awesome dude. Enjoy it there is nothing wrong.

My girlfriend recently picked up the X1 and there was definitely a green push. We used the i1 and calman and made it all go away. Do some research learn about your tvs service menu and how to access it and you can just calibrate the set yourself.

One more thing...the THX mode is going to be the closest you're going to get to a calibrated set without actually calibrating the TV. It's a bit dim in THX mode but besides that it's awesome

i have the g15 and my friend has an x1. out of the box, both had a pretty noticeable green push. i just looked up some service menu offsets on avs forum and applied them to my tv and his. now it's no longer a problem.

while calibration can definitely help with this.

panasonic released a THX fix for the V10 and G10 series...i don't recall seeing G15 in there.

I wish that was true, but panasonic has not released any THX fix yet for g10 for sure, and I don't think v10 either. my 54g10 has a sept 2009 build date and is updated with current firmware, but still has the strong green/green-yellow push in THX. :/

Hello all, new member here. really hoping i can find some folks who might have some answers since the panasonic website is of little use. i have the g15 model for scandinavia , denoted g15e. i know that there are regional differences but i dont seem to be able to access some of the features people are talking about. would someone mind explaining this 24p, 48hz versus 60 hz business? i understand the TV is supposed to be capable of refreshing at either hz rate but i see no way to change this from my tv menus. how would i change this setting ? or does the tv just automatically adjust? i see on my ps3 that i can adjust for these settings but not from the tv itself.
also, i thought this tv was supposed to have settings for anti burn in such as a white scroll bar and pixel orbiter...neither of those appears on a menu on my tv.
the last question concerns the black bars at the top/bottom of letterbox formats that dont fit the screen dimensions exactly....there is a menu setting for side bars which you can change from black to grey but is there something similar for these wide screen top/bottom bars?
thanks very much for your help.

Not sure what your last question is referring to...possibly a cable channel that doesn't fill the entire screen, if you're using HD size 1? If it's just a tiny sliver that doesn't fill in, try switching to HD size 2?

The refresh rate is under the "advanced settings" menu, in picture heading. I think the anti IR settings are under "set up"? Can't remember for sure, sitting here at work.

Hmmm, thats what i was worried about. there doesnt seem to be a refresh rate change option in the submenus....i guess the euro version doesnt allow it...anyone out there who can confirm?
the black bars i was talking about are for letterbox movies with wider than the screen dimensions ..so you get a black bar across the top and bottom. if you change the size it would just cut off the sides of the picture. in the tv signal there are black bars on the sides which can be changed to grey...was just wondering if the same option is available for the horizontal bars.

I have an Nov 09 build and do not have this problem. Did you call panny to get your board replaced?

Not yet - I still have a week in my 30-day exchange period (bought from sears); I was going to see if they'll do an exchange for a 54g10 with more recent build date. It's good to know that Nov 09 is problem-free. Is yours a 54g10? Anyway, if returning for exchange doesn't work or will be too much hassle, I'll call and request the a-board to be swapped. This TV is not top of the line but certainly too expensive to accept such noticeable color problems!

I have the 50G10. Looks like Panny is coming out with a fix Feb 5th for this.

yes they did. my build date is aug. 2009. and it was to correct THX issue in 1.18 and 1.19 FW issues.
anyone with 1.20+ FW should have not been experiencing issues....according to panasonic. if you are u should call in and write down your ticket #.

and while some people are having issues...you should call in and notify panasonic of the issue...sounds like those who are experiencing issues...a simple FW update isn't going to fix your issue.

i guess it was for the g15 as well...and yes this was to correct the green/yellow push. which is what the enhancement was.

1.1 Applicable Models
TC-P42G10, TC-P46G10, TC-P50G10, TC-P54G10, TC-P42G15, TC-P46G15, TC-P50G15,
TC-P50V10, TC-P54V10, TC-P58V10, and TC-P65V10
This includes models with the suffix U, UP, or U/P.
1.2 Purpose
• Solves incompatibility problem between the TV and Onkyo-Amp
• Includes THX Picture Mode Enhancement

while this update was set to fix it.......people are still experiencing issues and should call in if they are.

From what I have read, FW 1.20 fixed the issues for some people. However, 1.20 is not available anymore, and subsequent versions do NOT contain the fix. I know that sounds strange, because firmware updates should be cumulative... (the current version 1.28 should include the fix introduced by 1.20) but that doesn't seem to be the case here.

i can't think of any FW that isn't cumulative.

and i did do a bit of reading...i think that is miss information that was spreading on the AVS forum. D-NICE stated that it IS cumulative firmware. some others just browsed and posted that it isn't without reading the statements properly.

FW was meant to be cumulative...you take the current 1.0 and then build up...stuff breaks you apply a fix for that...1.2......add new stuff...1.5...fix what you added in 1.5 then becomes 1.6. u get the idea. like i said...i don't know any FW that comes to mind that didn't contain the previous FW updates within it.

the issue started with 1.18.........it hasn't corrected it for everyone with 1.20...1.28 was giving it a shot and fixed it for some and not others as well. too much misinformation out there...best bet is to call panny and let them know of your situation. others say...replace the a-board....panny says that can't fix it...panny also replaced a few a-boards and people thought the issue went away....so who knows.

i plan on selling my v10 to get the 3d tv in the spring anyway. but i love my tv. it was calibrated with a munsil disc that i have. i'll have to recheck THX mode when i get home and confirm if i have any green/yellow push going on. i'm using custom settings.
