Post Toy Story/Toy Story 2 in March 2010

Tuesday March 16, 2010 is the date!

Early retailer information in Denmark locks the above date for the release of both films and stores are already taking preorders

I expect an announcement from Buena Vista pretty soon.

Roll on the expectations for the specs

Two of the most rewatchable movies I've seen in my lifetime, and the rare instance where the sequel is better than the already great original (at least IMO). I still remember seeing TS2 in theaters yrs. ago and getting misty eyed during the song and montage..couldn't believe an animated film affected me like that.

So yeah, I'll be adding these to the collection. Great news about a release on the near horizon.

So if this is correct for the US, then we will see Fantasia and Fantasia 2000 as well in March. Hopefully we get all 4 in March.

So that would be, if they all stay on track:

Dumbo
Fantasia and Fantasia 2000
Toy Story and Toy Story 2
Beauty and the Beast
Toy Story 3
Princess and the Frog
Finding Nemo (maybe?)

That would make for a very nice and expensive 2010 for animated movies from Disney

Does that definitely include the Blu-ray version? Also, I know Wikipedia isn't the most trustworthy site but it doesn't include Toy Story in their list of movies in the "vault." I would think Disney would be willing to release Toy Story from the vault anyway. It makes sense to release all 3 movies on Blu-ray at around the same time. It'd be dumb to release 2 and 3 and not the first.

Edit: Also the Wikipedia page says Pixar movies aren't a part of the vault, only Disney made animated movies.

Toy Story quietly went into the vault last year along with Dumbo and Alice in wonderland.

Dumbo releases in February
Toy Story and Toy Story 2 are supposed to coincide with the Theatrical release of Toy Story 3

And the New Tim Burton Alice in Wonderland hits theatres March 5 and theres been rumours of a release to coincide with the blu-ray release of the film

The vault theory isnt law, I am just stating what I have read. Disney can re-release anything as its their library. Time will tell but I wouldnt get too excited as there are lots of rumors out there

nope. They wont miss the chance to capitalize on the release of 3. They'd be insane not to release it. Maybe just a blu release and no dvd for TS1 however is possible.

Not only are Pixar movies not part of the Disney "vault" - it would just be plain crazy not to take advantage of all the publicity they're going to buy for Toy Story 3 and all the interest the new movie will generate.

They came up with the idea of this so-called "vault" to continually have built-up demand for their animated titles - not to shoot themselves in the foot!

Damn, this means there is probably little chance that we will see Nemo next year.

The 10th anniversary DVD edition of Toy Story smokes some some of the average Blu-ray transfers. These ones should look and sound reference on BLU.

March? I would have expected a 3 pack later in the year with the release of Toy Story 3.

Me too; besides, I figured they would wait and release these under the new 3D Blu-ray architecture.

That's what I had pencilled in, June 18th, Tuesday before that is...

Kind of hard to believe they would put the blu's out ahead of that. I've seen the EU announcement(s) and its a bit of a head scratcher. I'll be there whenever they end up on the shelves!

The trailer for the blus, which is currently available on Disney BD-Live, states that each release will have its own exclusive sneak peek of the third film.

Based in that, it makes more sense to me that they would release these in the spring to gain interest rather than just days before the third film comes to theatres.

Why would they add sneak peeks to a film that'll be obsolete in less than a week?

i saw these in the 3d double feature rerelease in the theater a couple of months ago. they are fantastic films. if released today brand new in the theater they would do just as well as they did in the 90s. they can easily compete with todays animated features. i would think they would release these early to promote interest in toy story 3, rather than wait until toy story 3 is out.

I'll most likely wait and see if they release a trilogy boxset when toy story 3 comes out, in case they decide to add any extra features to the boxset.
